From the Co-ordinator of Languages
Congratulations to Ms Yu
We congratulate Ms Yu on completing an exciting professional learning opportunity in Taiwan during the winter school holidays.
Ms Yu participated in a professional development program specifically designed for teachers of Chinese working overseas. The program brought together Chinese language educators from around the world, providing valuable opportunities to share ideas, explore innovative teaching practices, and further strengthen her expertise in Chinese language education.
We are incredibly proud of Ms Yu’s commitment to continuous professional growth and her dedication to providing engaging and authentic language learning experiences for our students. We look forward to the insights and new perspectives she will continue to bring back to our classrooms.
Year 10 Chatswood Safari
Our Year 10 Chinese students recently enjoyed a “Chatswood Safari”, putting their Mandarin skills and cultural knowledge into practice beyond the classroom.
Students explored Chinese supermarkets, ordered food and drinks in Mandarin, and visited the Taiwanese Culture Centre to make a traditional drink and learn about the cultural significance of the dragon dance.
It was a valuable day of language, food and cultural discovery!
From Freddy (G10)
Our adventure kicked off at 美而廉 (Beautiful and Cheap) Chinese Supermarket in Chatswood, where we had an epic Chinese ingredient scavenger hunt. After the scavenger hunt, we headed over to 小火锅先生 (Mr. HotPoter) for some authentic, bubbling Chinese Hot Pot. After lunch, we hit up the Taiwan Cultural Centre where we got to make our own refreshing Aiyu Jelly and even learned how to do a traditional Chinese Dragon Dance! My favourite part of the excursion was being able to put my Chinese speaking skills to the test by communicating with the Chinese speaking cashiers at the Chinese Supermarket. 谢谢余老师 (xièxiè yú lǎoshī)!
