Principal's Piece 

Term 3, Week 5

This year, we will be holding a Father's Day morning activity where dads and special father figures are invited to spend time with their child in the classroom on Thursday 3rd September, from 7.45 am to 8.40 am. It is important that, if you are attending, you arrive on time as our teachers and your child have something special planned for their dads. We are also asking for a cash donation as you arrive at the gate, and all proceeds will go toward the Prostate Cancer Foundation.  

Our Father’s Day stall will be on Friday 4th September. All gifts will be $5.00. 

On Wednesday, our Year 5 and 6 students participated in a question and answer session with some of the Essendon football players. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to hear directly from professional AFL players about their football careers. The players shared insights into their football journeys, including the importance of hard work, perseverance, teamwork and setting goals. Our students had the opportunity to ask a range of thoughtful questions. We thank the Essendon Football Club and their players for taking the time to visit our school and engage so enthusiastically with our students. It was certainly a memorable experience for our Year 5 and 6 students and some of our staff!

One of our favourite times of the year is celebrating Book Week; it’s a wonderful opportunity to promote the joy and importance of reading across our school community. Reading not only supports academic growth but also inspires imagination, creativity and a lifelong love of learning. We will be having our annual Book Week parade on Monday 24th August at 9.00 am on the back oval. Students are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite book character. Parents are welcome to attend the parade. Looking forward to seeing the imaginative costumes our students come up with this year and, of course, our staff! 

Our Book Fair will also be open from Tuesday 25th to Monday 31st August, before and after school. There will be a range of books and other items to purchase and a chance to expand your home library. 

Thank you to our staff and families who have donated to our Winter Woollies initiative to support the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. We still have 2 weeks left to donate any new items such as beanies, scarves, socks, gloves, etc. Thank you to Deborah for her creative display of some of our donations in our cabinet. 

Currently, all Catholic schools are working through planning and budgeting activities for 2027 to ensure we are well placed to support our staff, students and school communities in the coming year. This includes looking at how we can accommodate the changes likely to flow from a new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) with school staff.

We will continue to keep our parent community informed throughout this process. As always, our focus remains on maintaining strong school communities and continuing to deliver a high-quality Catholic education for every student.
