Book Week 2026: A Symphony of Stories

On Friday 28th August, our school came alive with colour, creativity, and excitement as students from Jiloa Juniors right through to Year 10 joined together to celebrate Book Week 2026.

This year's theme, "A Symphony of Stories," was brought to life in spectacular fashion, with an amazing array of book characters making an appearance. From classic favourites to modern heroes, the effort and imagination on display were truly remarkable. It was wonderful to see our students embracing the joy of reading and sharing their love of stories through their costumes and enthusiasm.

Book Week continues to be one of the highlights of our school calendar, and this year's celebration was a fantastic community event. We were delighted to welcome a huge number of parents and family members who joined us for the day. Your presence added to the atmosphere and helped make the occasion even more special.

A heartfelt thank you goes to all our families for the time, care, and creativity invested in preparing costumes. The costumes were outstanding, and the smiles on students' faces showed just how much this support means.

We would also like to acknowledge and thank our entire staff team for wholeheartedly embracing the fun and helping create such a memorable experience for our students. Your willingness to dive into the spirit of the day added greatly to its success.

A special thank you must go to Mrs Mandi Scott, whose passion, organisation, and dedication brought the event together so beautifully. Her efforts spread joy throughout our school community and ensured Book Week was a celebration to remember.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making Book Week 2026 such a wonderful success. Together, we created a truly memorable Symphony of Stories that celebrated the power of books, imagination, and community.

Tasmanian Premier's Reading Challenge

A huge congratulations to all of our students who participated in this year's Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC).

Over the 10-week challenge, students from Kinder to Year 6 had the opportunity to explore a wide variety of reading materials and develop their love of reading. 

Returning Log Books

If your child has completed the Premier's Reading Challenge, please return all log books to the Central Office by Friday 4th September. Every student who completes and returns their log book will receive a signed certificate from the Premier of Tasmania.

Thank you to all students and families for supporting the Premier's Reading Challenge and encouraging a love of reading at home.

Learn To Swim

Starting next Wednesday, all students in Prep-Year 4 will be participating in our Learn to Swim program. This will be held at the Splash Devonport Aquatic and Leisure Centre and lessons are taught by qualified swimming instructors. Class teachers and learning assistants will attend with their class.

We would like parent volunteer help over these days. If you are available and have completed all of our DCS volunteer requirements, please contact Corina Barnard via email at: corina.barnard@dcs.tas.edu.au or phone 6423 1373.

Dates:

Venue: Splash Devonport Aquatic and Leisure Centre

Transport: Kinetic Bus

Please Pack:

•    Asthma puffer (if required)

•    Bathers

•    Towel x 2

•    Plastic bag for wet clothing

•    Goggles (optional)

•    Drink & extra snacks

Please bring items in a sturdy carry bag (plastic bags are not strong enough) and ensure that all items are clearly named.

Students are to wear their sports uniform for the duration of the campaign. It is also recommended to bring an extra snack to eat before or after their swimming lessons.

Please indicate your permission via Consent2Go.  Your child will be unable to participate without consent. Any students not swimming will still be required to travel to the pool with their class and observe.
