Wellbeing

PBL
At SFS, our PBL (Positive Behaviours for Learning) school wide expectations are:
Respect, Responsibility and Kindness
We have a whole school social skills lesson where we explicitly teach an expected behaviour from our Behaviour Expectation matrix.
This week we have focused on Kindness: Be thoughtful of others to coincide with R U OK day. It is important that we show kindness and are thoughtful of others. We believe in the dignity of the human person.
R U OK day is all about looking out for our friends, classmates and family and making sure that they are okay. When our friends are sad, frustrated, angry or just not themselves, it is important that we try to help them and ask if they are okay.
Here are some of our recent lucky raffle winners who have been demonstrating expected behaviours at school.
R U OK day
This week on Thursday we celebrated R U OK day.
The students learnt about how we can check in on each other and ask R U OK by following the steps of ALEC. Ask, Listen, Encourage Action and Check in.
The students learnt about ways we can ask others if they are okay and get help for them.
On Thursday, the students were allowed to wear a touch of yellow to highlight the importance of the day and the message.
Our SRC students also helped out during the week by wearing flouro vests at Lunch times. The students were available to talk to other students and check in on them and make sure that they are okay.
This week it was also National Child Protection week with the theme this year being “Every Conversation Matters: Shifting conversation to action”. It is important that adults have regular conversations about keeping children safe. It is an opportunity to raise awareness of child abuse and neglect, share information and practical resources, amplify the voices of children and young people, and promote actions that strengthen families and communities and prevent harm before it occurs.
Child safety is everyone’s business and something we take very seriously at St Francis de Sales. During our SRC meeting this week, I talked to the students about their rights.
Children have a right to have a say in things that are important to them. Adults need to listen to children and recognise that children are experts about their own lives. I asked the children to tell me about what things are important to them and I asked them to share their ideas about what things they would change to make it better. Here is what the students had to say….
