SWPBS

The week 9 & 10 focus for SWPBS has been on Respect - Smile, greet others, and use my manners.

Respect is shown through the small things we do every day, such as smiling, greeting others, using good manners, opening the door for someone, and thinking about how our actions affect those around us. These simple acts of kindness help create a welcoming and inclusive community where everyone feels valued and supported. By being thoughtful and considerate, children build positive relationships, develop empathy, and contribute to a culture of care both at school and beyond.

Ways families can support this at home:

  • Model respectful language by using "please," "thank you," and "excuse me."

  • Encourage your child to greet family members, neighbours, and friends with a smile and a friendly hello.

  • Invite your child to look for thoughtful ways to help others, such as opening a door, offering to carry something, or letting someone go first.

  • Talk about how small acts of kindness and good manners can make a big difference to someone's day.

  • Praise your child when they show consideration, patience, or respect for others.

  • Show your child how to use manners when sitting at the table for dinner.

  • Read books or discuss real-life situations that highlight empathy, kindness, and thinking about other people's feelings.
