Board of Governors Update

In the spirit of careful listening and shared discernment, the Board of Governors has continued its work this term with a focus on continuity, renewal and stewardship of the School's Purpose & Concerns.

Our recent Annual General Meeting provided an important opportunity to reflect on the past year and to look ahead. The Board acknowledges the strong sense of community engagement and support reflected at the AGM, and the continued confidence in the School's direction. While the year presented challenges and periods of change, the resilience demonstrated by our students, staff, families and broader community has been a defining strength. We remain focused on ensuring that governance is both rigorous and responsive, with decisions made in a manner that is thoughtful, transparent, and aligned with the School's values.

A highlight of the term was the visit of the Quaker Values Committee. Their time with students, staff and Board members offered a valuable opportunity to reflect on how Quaker testimonies continue to shape the life of the School, from our classrooms and co-curricular programs to our governance and decision-making. Their observations and insights reinforced the importance of remaining anchored in these values as we navigate an increasingly complex educational environment. Their insights will continue to inform our approach to decision-making and long-term planning.

This term has also marked a significant transition in Board leadership. At the AGM, we formally acknowledged the retirement of Craig Stephens as Presiding Member. Craig has served the School with distinction over many years, demonstrating steady leadership, integrity, and a deep commitment to the School's ethos. His contribution to Board culture, governance practice, and strategic oversight has been substantial, and he leaves the role with the Board well positioned for its next phase.

It is a privilege to step into the role of Presiding Member following Craig's tenure. I do so with a strong appreciation for the solid foundations that have been laid and for the collaborative and thoughtful culture that exists within the Board. As we look ahead, our focus will remain on supporting the School's long-term success while ensuring that we continue to listen carefully, ask good questions, and remain focused on the needs of students, staff, and the broader Friends' community.

Alongside these developments, the Board has continued its core work of overseeing governance, strategy and risk, while supporting the School's long-term priorities. We are encouraged by the strength of the School across many areas and remain attentive to both emerging challenges and future opportunities. I am grateful to the Principal, the Leadership Team, and my fellow Board members for their thoughtful leadership, wise counsel and ongoing commitment to the School and our community.
