2026 Theme for Wollert Primary School: Empowerment

Dear Wollert PS Families, 

Thank you to the students for the way you have returned to the term. It has been wonderful to see everyone focused on learning and demonstrating our school values in the classrooms and on the playgrounds. I also want to express my gratitude to the families who continue to support our school. We are very fortunate to have such supportive families, along with an active School Council and Parent and Friends Association that helps enhance our community. We recently launched a parent helper program, which fosters a culture of partnership in learning together for life for our students.

Print A 3D Car Challenge 

Two weeks ago, we held our inaugural 3D Print a Car competition for our Year 5 and 6 students. In this event, students from these year groups, who participate in our specialist subject of Entrepreneurship and Invention, designed and created 3D printed cars to race in our gymnasium. Several teams will go on to race their creations in a state competition at Quantum Victoria at La Trobe University.

This specialist subject in Years 5/6 enhances high-level thinking around design and mathematical concepts, which should be celebrated at our school. Congratulations to Lisa Willmore, one of our STEM teachers, for facilitating this experience, which will become an annual event. The students thoroughly enjoyed the event, and all classes had the chance to visit the races throughout the day.

2026 Book WeekTheme: Symphony of Stories

We are thrilled to announce our Book Fair coming to the library space in Week 5! Students will have the opportunity to visit the fair during class time, and it will also be open after hours for families to purchase books. This year’s Book Week will also be celebrated from Saturday, August 22, to Friday, August 28, 2026. Throughout this week, Week 7, students will continue to explore the joy of reading, connecting with and celebrating the theme: Symphony of Stories. We will hold our annual Book Parade in the gym on Thursday, August 27, from 9:15am to 10:00am. Students are invited to dress up as their favourite book character or someone who fits this year’s theme! A big thank you to all the Wollert families for supporting the Book Fair and the excitement of Book Week in advance.

Staff Update - Prep D

As communicated on Compass, Sarah Nisi has started her leave this week as she is expecting her first child. We extend our congratulations to Sarah and her partner, Michael, and wish them all the best during this special time. Ash MacArthur, an experienced Prep teacher, has begun in the classroom and completed a comprehensive handover process with Sarah to support our students in their first year at Wollert Primary School.

Once again, we congratulate Sarah and Michael. We will miss Sarah tremendously for the rest of the year, and we cannot wait to welcome her back!

Student Excellence at Wollert PS Continues to Thrive

During Week 5, students in Years 4-6 who have signed up for the ICAS assessment in English will have the opportunity to complete the test. The numeracy assessment will also take place in Week 7. ICAS is a globally recognised academic competition that allows students to discover their capabilities. Schools worldwide enter ICAS testing to challenge students and seek out opportunities around academic emphasis. Important Reminder: Planning for 2027 Enrolments

We have finalised our outcome letters regarding the 2027 Foundation enrolments, and we are excited to welcome new families to Wollert Primary School. Parents can access the school enrolment form by visiting the office during opening hours or by calling the main office for more information regarding Foundation enrolments for 2027.

I recently visited our local kindergarten at Kirrip Community Centre and loved seeing the excitement on the children's faces when I talked about coming to school next year, especially about playing in our playground!

2027 Student Exits

If your child is currently in Foundation to Year 5 and will not be attending Wollert Primary School in 2027, please notify us in writing via email at wollert.ps@education.vic.gov.au as soon as possible. We need this information to establish grade structures for the 2027 school year as we begin this process.

Announcements and Reminders

Squishy Toys: Please be aware that squishy toys cannot be traded or exchanged for money at our school. We kindly ask that you do not bring these toys to school, as they can become quite messy if they leak or break.

Year 4 Camp: Just a reminder that camp deposits via Compass are due this Friday, 7th of August, for the Year 4 Day Camp, which will be an amazing experience for students and part of our camp program.

(The second-hand uniform sale will be held at 3:10pm at the front of the gymnasium, offering great prices!)

Dress Up Days in Term 3: We have a number of upcoming dress-up days in Term 3.

• Book Parade as stated above: Thursday, 27th of August
• R U OK? Day: Thursday, 10th of September – Wear a splash of yellow
• Italian Day: Tuesday, 15th of September – Dress in Italian colours or an Italian-themed outfit

• Sports Day: Friday, 18th of September – Dress in your favourite sporting team's colours or sports outfit
