Career Pathways

Future Directions Evening
On Thursday 2 July, Aberfoyle Park High School hosted its inaugural Future Directions Event. Despite some challenging weather conditions, the evening was a great success, offering valuable guidance for parents and students in Years 9, 10 and 11 regarding pathways to university, VET courses, and apprenticeships.
The event featured a panel of expert speakers, including representatives from the industry, Flinders University, Adelaide University, and our school’s Pathways Advisor. The panel provided insights into a wide range of opportunities available to students as they plan for their futures.
Following the presentations, attendees were able to engage directly with speakers and representatives, allowing for personal conversations and tailored advice about possible future study and career options.
This event served as an important first step, with further information and support to be provided in Term 3 through Wellbeing for Learning lessons and Pathway Planning conversations. These ongoing initiatives will help students make informed choices about their subjects and pathways for 2027 and beyond.

Career Exploration at Tonsley Innovation Precinct
On Thursday, 18 June, a group of our Year 9 students enjoyed the fantastic opportunity to attend career immersion workshops at the Tonsley Innovation Precinct.
During the day, students heard from representatives of the South Australian Local Health Network (SALHN) about rewarding career paths in nursing and speech pathology. They gained hands-on experience learning skills such as CPR and explored how speech pathologists assist patients with swallowing difficulties.
The Motor Trade Association (MTA) hosted an engaging session highlighting the many career opportunities in the motor industry, and students put their knowledge to the test in a tyre-changing relay.
A guided tour of the TAFE Trade Centre gave students valuable insight into a broad range of trades, including in-demand areas as well as less common fields such as glazing, bricklaying, and painting.
The excursion concluded with a visit to Micro-X, where students discovered the process of designing and creating portable X-ray machines, offering a glimpse into the innovative applications of technology in healthcare.
With such a diverse range of opportunities on display, the day was both inspiring and informative, helping students to consider potential pathways for their futures beyond school.
