Bayside Shines at the SIS Teen Chef Competition
This month, four Year 10 students proudly represented Bayside at the SIS Teen Chef Competition, where they were challenged to reimagine nostalgic dishes with a modern twist. In the lead-up to the competition, the students participated in three practice sessions to perfect their dishes and refine their skills.
Main Course: Ruby and Peyton prepared a lamb and rosemary pie served with seasonal vegetables.
Dessert: Elise and Lucy created a deconstructed apple and pear crumble.
On competition day, students worked in a MasterChef-style environment under authentic commercial kitchen conditions. Experienced chefs from the Australian Culinary Federation judged the teams, with each team starting on 100 points and marks deducted throughout the competition based on their performance. The competition gave students a genuine insight into what it is like to work in a professional commercial kitchen. Teams were assessed on their technical skills, creativity, organisation, teamwork, and professionalism.
We are incredibly proud of our Bayside team, who earned a Silver Medal for their outstanding performance. It was a wonderful moment to see the excitement and pride on the students' faces when their achievement was announced. Their dedication, hard work, and commitment throughout their preparation truly paid off. Congratulations to Ruby, Peyton, Elise, and Lucy on this fantastic achievement!
Year 9/10 Agriculture
Our Agriculture students have been busy cutting back the kitchen garden in front of the Trade Centre Café and preparing the Indigenous zone for planting local endemic trees and shrubs. The class has done a wonderful job so far this semester and have enjoyed some guinea pig time in class. A huge thanks goes to Mrs. Ulli Austermann for bringing her guinea pigs into the Agriculture room.
BITE Conference 2026
Two of our VCE Business Management students had the exciting opportunity to attend the 2026 B.I.T.E Business Conference, a premier event bringing together inspiring business leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators from across the region. Throughout the day, students gained valuable insights into leadership, innovation, technology, and the future of business through engaging keynote presentations and panel discussions.
One of the highlights of the conference was seeing a live robot demonstration from Robot for Hire, which showcased the exciting possibilities of robotics and emerging technologies in business. It was an amazing experience to see the robot in action and witness firsthand how innovation is shaping the future. This authentic learning experience allowed students to connect their classroom studies with real-world business practices while being inspired by some of Australia's leading business minds.

VCE Business Management Students Take Learning Beyond the Classroom!
Our VCE Business Management students recently stepped into the world of business with an exciting excursion focused on one of Australia's favourite restaurant brands, Nando's. Students explored the fascinating history of the business, discovered how Nando's operates behind the scenes, and learnt about the innovative marketing strategies that have helped the brand grow into a global success. It was a fantastic opportunity to see key business concepts come to life in a real-world setting.
The highlight of the day was visiting Nando's Karingal Hub, where students experienced the business in action. We were incredibly fortunate to be hosted by Bayside Christian College Board member, Mr Cameron Hooper, who generously provided complimentary meals for everyone. His warm hospitality made the experience even more memorable, and we sincerely thank him for his generosity and continued support of our students' learning.
Experiences like these inspire our students, strengthen classroom learning, and demonstrate the value of connecting education with the real world.
Sustainability community group
Our sustainability students have done a wonderful job planting local trees and shrubs both in our Indigenous Zone and around the North Campus dam. These plants will greatly increase the biodiversity of both areas to help promote native animals and birds.

VM Winter Shelter
Year 11 VM students again helped set up and pack up the Frankston Winter Shelter at Peninsula City Church. The students did a wonderful job serving their local community and logged these sessions against the Certificate II in Active Volunteering course.

Year 8B Mathematics
This week, while we were learning about Linear Equations, we did a practical worldview lesson on “The Arches National Park” in Arizona (USA). The question posed was how long have these arches been in existence for?
We looked at and compared the timeline data for the secular worldview and for the Biblical worldview. From observational evidence, we know that about one of the arches is collapsing every year, that there are about 2000 arches in existence at present and that the arches are not forming today (I explained the difficulty in these structures forming over long time periods as opposed to explaining these structures being formed by the great flood).
From this we graphed the Y intercept (2000) and the gradient being -1, so the formula was y = -1x + 2000. Assuming the same rate of destruction of the arches, we looked at how long the arches would survive for and how many arches there would have been in the past (thousands or millions of years). Due to the lack of talus/debris and the number of arches needed in the past, the Biblical worldview looked like a stronger option.
One bright student in the class questioned the assumption, so we looked at other models like y = A0 x e^-kt , and showed how these models still support the Biblical worldview model (even better in most cases).
Year 12 VM Literacy workshops
It is that exciting time of year again where our Year 12 students teach the entire class a skill they have mastered. This year we have had:

Making slime
Finger-knitting
Car-detailing
Changing a tyre
Horse husbandry
DJ-ing
Origami
Hair-braiding
Cup-cake-decorating
Soccer skills and more.
The students each stepped out of their comfort zone to share their talent with their peers, and all of them did a fantastic job and showed that they have learned to speak freely and confidently in front of an audience. Their lesson plans were teacher-worthy, and their advertising flyers made you want to book a session with one of them.
Science Week 2026
This week was Science Week. At Bayside we celebrated the topic of “flourishing and nurturing” (which also reflects our College theme for this year) by making planter pots out of newspaper and planting a variety of seeds in them. The pot will eventually disintegrate and leave the plant behind. This activity was particularly enjoyed by Year 6, 7 and 8s.
VCE Chemistry
Chemistry is always exciting. Whether it is making tea so we can unmake it in the demonstration of distillation (which we might have taken slightly too far by burning what was left) or diluting coffee in the most accurate of ways so we can calculate its concentration accurately. Regardless, we are always having a good time!

Year 7 -10 Science
As part of our Year 7 Body Systems unit, students have been learning about human body systems and also about body systems in some animals. Recently, students had the opportunity to carry out a fish dissection. We observed different parts of the fish, including gills, stomach, intestine and heart. We considered similarities and differences between human lungs and fish gills.
In Year 9 Science, students are learning about waves. We are currently exploring light, and have used light boxes to show that when light is reflected from a mirror, the angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection.
Year 10 Science students have been taking a closer look at all different types of chemical reactions, from Composition and decomposition to single replacement and precipitation. They also carried out a second activity where they placed an iron nail in copper sulphate solution and observed that the nail became coated in copper. This is an example of a displacement reaction.
We also made bath bombs to test how the substances would react with each other. In these photos, we were testing what happens to bubbles when other substances are added to their composition. The students were enjoying this prac!
