Kindergarten

On Friday 3 July our Kindy class celebrated 100 days of Kindergarten with fun activities and cupcakes!

Stage 1

Our Stage 1 students have enthusiastically begun music lessons with our new instruments, the boomwhackers. These lightweight, hollow, colour-coded plastic tubes are tuned to specific musical pitches based on their length. As part of the percussion family, they produce musical notes when struck against the hand, a table, the floor or another surface. The students have been learning to play boomwhackers alongside other percussion instruments to the song "Africa" by Toto. We are very impressed with how quickly they have mastered using the instruments and following the notes.

Meanwhile, our Year 1 students have embarked on exciting dinosaur research, discovering fascinating facts along the way. We read the story Dinosaurs Love Underpants and got creative by designing bright and colourful underpants to decorate our dinosaurs. To add to the fun, some adorable dinosaur characters have joined us in the classroom, making learning even more engaging.

Year 2 have been loving reading I Talk Like a River by Jordan Scott. We have enjoyed discovering how the author uses figurative language to create vivid images and bring the story to life, while also sharing thoughtful conversations about empathy, resilience and the many different ways people communicate. Year 2 are excited to begin using figurative language in their own writing to make it more creative and engaging.

New England Sings

Outreach Rehearsal

Our Primary Choir recently enjoyed a New England Sings! outreach rehearsal with choir director and composer Ian Jefferson, accompanied by highly regarded local pianist Warwick Dunham. Funded by New England Sings! for outreach schools, the workshop gave students a wonderful opportunity to receive expert singing tips while rehearsing the concert repertoire. Ian also entertained the choir with his impressive card tricks, which are always a highlight! The students had a wonderful time and are preparing well for the concert on 1 November. This year, we are also planning to participate in the secondary choir, with our repertoire nearly ready - stay tuned!

Year 5/6

This term in English, we are learning about Poetry. We have learnt about haikus, limericks, Shakespeare's Sonnets, slam poetry and quatrains. These are some of the poems that we have been working on in class.
