Principal's Report

Sofia Vearing

Dear parents and carers,

Term 2 concluded last Friday with great celebration and joy as we marked Sacred Heart Day 2026.  For our MSC community, this day is the most significant in our calendar as we celebrate a spirituality that invites us to journey into our own hearts and to live differently as people of love.

The theme ‘Lead with Love’ was front and centre of mass which was celebrated by Fr Shane Carr MSC.  Staff and students were invited to reflect on the meaning of Sacred Heart Day and what it means to lead with love.  The simple acts of love that were so well articulated were inspiring and show us what can be achieved if we live life with love at our core.

Once again on this occasion MSC Education awards were presented to members of staff recognising their commitment to quality teaching, college mission and exemplary leadership.  We congratulate the following recipients of the 2026 MSC Education Awards:

Ms Nyah Bester - the Treand Award - On the journey finding heart

Ms Maryanne Gustus – the Issoudon Award - Contribution to the operations of the College to fulfill its mission

Mrs Sofia Vearing – the Sacre Cour Award – Teaching with heart

Mrs Jane Nankivell – the Cuskelly Award Pushing the boundaries for positive change

Mr Jim Bailey – the MSC Provincial Superior Award - Leadership

We continue to think of our staff and students who are currently travelling overseas. Father Shane Carr, Ms Melody Keath and Ms Kate Couchman are embarking on a pilgrimage to Issoudon to deepen their understanding of the MSC charism and the life and works of our founder Fr Jules Chevalier.  Additionally, we are eagerly watching social media updates to share in a small way, the experience of the staff and students on the inaugural Science trip to South Africa.

We say farewell to Mr Adrian Burn, who is leaving us at the end of this term.  We are very grateful for the care and love he has shown to his students and for the excellent work he has done throughout the term.  He will be greatly missed.  We are delighted to welcome Mrs Molly Savage back after maternity leave in the exciting new role of Instructional Coach and Mentor.

Term 2 has been an exceptionally busy one for staff and students.  We wish the Year 12 students well for their mid-year exam period and hope that this break allows everyone to take a breath, rest and replenish.

With Sacred Heart Day in mind, I offer you this final reflection.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, wellspring of boundless love,

Just as You modelled a servant’s heart,

Ignite in us the same fire of divine compassion.

Open our eyes to recognise Your presence in our neighbour

Give us the courage to step beyond our comfort zones,

To heal the broken, and to bring Your light to the margins.

May we foster unity, inclusivity and peace in a divided world.

Transform our hearts to beat in rhythm with Yours –

This is indeed radical love.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, we place our trust in You.

Amen
