Regional Debating Day at TPPS
On Tuesday, the TPPS Debating Team competed in the Debaters association of Victoria (DAV) Regional Debating Day. With 61 students auditioning for the team, it was extremely difficult to pick the 16 students to represent the school. Our 16 students were divided into 4 teams and they undertook 3 debates on the Regional Debating Day. Joining our teams on the day were Watsonia Heights PS.
Topics for the debates included:
- That we should have a minimum age of 18 for riding electric bicycles (e-bikes)
- That we prefer team sports (e.g. basketball) to individual sports (e.g. swimming)
That teachers and parents should not use sugary food as rewards
Our teams performed extremely well, with Templestowe Park 1 winning all three debates and Templestowe Park 2 winning two out of three. Harry H, Oscar H and Eliza P were judged as the best speakers for the day.
Congratulations to all of our debaters on their first experience of formal debating. All students had a fantastic day and they all said that they plan to pursue debating in secondary school.

Manningham Rotary Speech Contest
During Term 2 some Grade 6 students were selected to participate in the Rotary Speech Contest. Auditions were held at school and Ro M and Elsa B-B were selected to represent TPPS. For their topics, Elsa chose If I could change the world and Ro chose The best invention ever. The competition was held at Doncaster Secondary College and Templestowe Heights, Milgate, Templestowe Valley and St Kevin’s each entered two students. Both students spoke exceptionally well, with Ro taking second prize. Grade 6 is incredibly proud of both students. Well done!
