Music and Performing Arts Term 2 News

Hello There!

Welcome back to Term 2 in the Music Room. The Year 5 and 6 students will be wrapping up their guitar studies with a portfolio task that involves them playing a chord progression and then using some of their guitar knowledge to collaborate with fellow students using a variety of instruments to create a cover version of either ‘Rock Around the Clock’, ‘Three Little Birds’ or ‘Shake it Off’. The Year 3 and 4 students will be completing a similar portfolio task using the ukulele, where they’ll create mini-band cover versions of either ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ or ‘Riptide’.

Our Foundation, Year 1 and 2 students will be completing their portfolio tasks, assessing their knowledge of and ability to play several rhythmic ostinatos and will move on to experimenting with tuned percussion instruments (xylophones, metallophones and glockenspiels) to further develop their musical knowledge and skills.

All year levels will continue to use the excellent Music Education applications we have on our iPads, such as Rhythm Dictation, Staff Wars and GarageBand to deepen their knowledge of a variety of musical concepts.

The Senior and Junior Choirs will be performing at assemblies and at our school’s Open Night in the Wentworth Building. They are looking forward to the opportunities of sharing their love of music with an audience.

World Music Week

We are also excited to about the wonderful music incursion we have organised for the last week of Term 2, on Wednesday, 24 June as part of our World Music Week celebrations, when we will have the amazing European Folk performers ‘Vardos’ visiting the school. If all goes to plan, we should hopefully be able to organise another World Music Week Concert where we’ll have a variety of students including the choirs, solo performers, dance groups and mini-bands sharing their talents with an audience including students and families. Stay tuned for more information on our World Music Week Concert.

Thanks,
