Compost Today, Garden Tomorrow!
This term, the Envirostars are encouraging everyone to build better composting habits in our classrooms.
Representatives have prepared mini compost bins in classrooms, designed to collect fruit and vegetable scraps from brainfood and recess. Instead of going to landfill, these scraps can be turned into nutrient-rich compost
Remember, most fruit and veggie scraps can go in, but avoid citrus, plastic, meat, and dairy. Thanks to Envirostar S (6A) for his creative poster to remind students in CPS about this.
Together, we can make a big difference to our environment!
Stationery Recycling at Officeworks
Last term, the Envirostars have been championing the collection of used pens, markers, and other writing materials to donate to Officeworks as part of their recycling program.
Instead of ending up in landfill, these items will be recycled and turned into new products, helping to reduce waste and protect our environment.
Well done to Ellie (3A) for volunteering to drop off the collection on behalf of CPS - The spirit of a true environmental star! A big thank you to everyone who contributed. Every pen counts when it comes to creating a more sustainable future.
CPS Envirostars and Boomerang Bags Glen Eira Unite for Sustainability
Carnegie Primary School Envirostars were proud to partner with Boomerang Bags Glen Eira at the end of Term 3 to promote sustainable practices.
Students from Prep to Grade 6 took part in two competitions: a Bag Hero Challenge and a Poster Power Competition, both designed to explore plastic pollution and encourage the use of reusable alternatives.
Winners of each competition received a $100 Chadstone Gift Voucher, generously donated by Chadstone Shopping Centre. Congratulations to William D (1B) and Devika S (5A).
Boomerang Bags Glen Eira coordinator reflected on the program’s success:
“When students reuse a bag or remind others to do the same, they’re helping protect local wildlife, reduce litter, and create a cleaner environment.”
This initiative supports Glen Eira Council’s sustainability goals by encouraging families, schools, and community groups to rethink habits and embrace reusable alternatives. It also highlights the power of local partnerships in driving grassroots change.
