Senior Exam Period

Congratulations to our Year 12 and Year 11 students on the way they have approached and conducted themselves during the recent exam period. Exams are an important part of senior assessment, and we are very proud of the maturity, resilience, and dedication our students have shown.

At MMCRC, we introduce exams from Year 9 onwards to help students gradually build effective study habits and become familiar with exam structures and expectations. This preparation ensures that by Year 12, students feel confident in managing the challenges of formal assessment.

On Monday, 17th November, our Year 11 students will formally begin their Year 12 classes as part of Term Zero. This transition period allows students to begin engaging with the Year 12 curriculum and prepare for the year ahead with focus and confidence.

Supporting Year 9 and 10 Students Through Exam Season: Balancing Motivation and Growth

As our Year 9 and 10 students approach their upcoming examinations - beginning 18th November for Year 10 and 27th November for Year 9 - it is important to support them in maintaining motivation and balance during this time.

While we all hope students’ motivation comes from a love of learning, it is natural for external motivators, such as grades or future goals, to play a part. Both intrinsic motivation (driven by curiosity and enjoyment of learning) and extrinsic motivation (influenced by outcomes or rewards) are valuable. When these work together, students learn to appreciate both the process and the purpose of their efforts.

Parents can play a key role by encouraging persistence, praising effort, and helping students keep a healthy perspective on exams. Viewing exams as stepping stones toward future goals rather than as obstacles helps students build confidence, resilience, and a positive attitude toward challenge and growth.
