Principal News

Dear Families

Each morning when I arrive at school, I walk past our school banner to enter my office and then throughout the day as l walk through the office area many many times,  I find myself reading our Sacred Heart motto;  Guiding students with faith, purpose and excellence. Each time I read it I ask myself;  are we living our motto? Are we guiding our community with faith? Are we enacting our purpose each day, each teaching session, each playtime? Are we striving for excellence in all that we do and give our community?

When reflecting upon the last fortnight and looking at the fortnight to come, in writing this page of the newsletter, I am so proud of all that we endeavour to do at Sacred Heart, and no wonder we are looking forward to a mid term break for students and long weekend for staff! As a presenter said to our staff this week, look around your school community and appreciate your students, your families, your colleagues and yourselves. You have much to be grateful for! We give thanks to God for our Sacred Heart family and ask for the strength and the courage to continue to grow in faith, purpose and excellence.

Archbishop Peter Comensoli

Last Friday we welcomed Archbishop Peter Comensoli to our community. On Friday he joined us for assembly, met with our leadership team, and had morning tea with the staff. Alongside spending time with the parish of Holy Spirit and St Francis. Our assembly hosts Talia and Blake took our special visitor in their stride and Archbishop Peter really enjoyed meeting everyone and speaking with the students at assembly. He even enjoyed a cake made for him, by one of our Prep students.

Our new water feature

On Monday 1st June our water feature was ready for playtime! Steve, our clever maintenance officer, has designed our wet area that allows water to be pumped out and then taken to the mud kitchen for some baking. It was great to see it being a hive of activity this week.

Sacred Heart’s Grandparents and Special Friends Day

I had heard how wonderful Sacred Heart’s Grandparents and Special Friends Day was and it went beyond my expectations!  Our School Captains; Geneva, Milla, Octavio and Simon led us with confidence that continues to grow each term. Our Year Three and Four students brought the house down with Here Comes the Sun, and there was not a dry eye, with the accompanying photos. Our visitors then were welcomed into our classrooms and this was loved by everyone. Our morning was finished with a special grown up morning tea  feast in MacKillop Hall. It looked magnificent and the food was delicious. A huge thank you to Lauren, Mel and the Prep team for this. The raffle was a great success too!

Mother’s Day lunch

Two Saturdays ago our beautiful Mum’s had a special Mother's Day lunch. These wonderful women work so hard for each of us, and it was great hearing that they had a fantastic time. The photos encapsulate the essence of the day! We thank Adele, and the P & F team,  for organising and leading this event, ensuring a great time for all.

Kinder visit

Last Friday I had the privilege of taking the second group of Year Four students to visit Nagle Kindergarten. Again I was so proud of the manner in which they interacted with the kinder children and showed fun, kindness and respect in our afternoon session. I congratulate each of them.

Disco

Last Friday night the children danced the night away at the annual disco. Our Juniors were there from 5:00-6:00pm and our Senior students from 6:30-7:30pm. A great deal of effort went into the night by Daina, Kylie and the Yr 1 parent team. The children are congratulated for their manners and behaviour. I thoroughly enjoyed watching all the children dancing and having fun, from our Preps at their first disco, to our Year Six students at their last Sacred Heart Disco.

Grazing Hampers

The Grazing Hampers have been a huge success and we thank Luisa and Marielle for this popular initiative. The staff were so appreciative of our grazing platter morning tea this morning during our First Aid course. It was delicious! The staff were also spoiled with a warm and cosy selection of soups yesterday, from  Luisa and Marielle, made all the more delicious by the bleak weather outside! We thank them very much.

We congratulate our Dendy Lightning Premiership Soccer Cup players

On Tuesday, our boys and girls soccer teams proudly represented Sacred Heart at the Soccer Lightning Cup held at Caulfield Park. Both teams displayed outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork and determination throughout the day, representing our school in a fantastic manner. Our boys team enjoyed a strong tournament and were unlucky to fall just short in the semi-final, going down by a single goal. They should be extremely proud of their efforts and the way they conducted themselves throughout the day. Our girls team had an incredible day, ultimately being crowned champions! After a thrilling final, the girls secured victory in a dramatic penalty shootout that extended to an incredible 17 penalties. It was a remarkable display of composure, resilience and skill under pressure. A special mention must go to the boys team, who stayed behind to cheer on and support the girls throughout the final. Their encouragement and school spirit were outstanding and reflected the strong sense of community within our sporting program. As tournament winners, the girls team will now progress to the Beachside Carnival on August 11 at Kingston Heath Soccer Club, where they will represent Sacred Heart against other schools from across the region.

A big thank you to Mr Jaynes and Mr Luke Homer for their coaching of the girls team, and to Colin Gilmour and Nico Grau Molina for their excellent work coaching the boys team on the day. Your time, energy and support were greatly appreciated.

Reports and Parent/Teacher Interviews

As we approach the end of Semester One, student reports will be sent home on Friday 19 June. These reports provide valuable information about your child's learning progress, achievements and areas for future growth throughout the semester. We encourage families to take the time to read the report together and celebrate the learning that has taken place.

Parent-Teacher Interviews will be held on Tuesday 23 June and Thursday 25 June from 2:30pm to 6:30pm. These interviews provide an important opportunity for families and teachers to discuss student progress, acknowledge successes and work together to support each child's ongoing learning and development.

On both interview days, families are welcome to collect their children early to attend their scheduled interview. Students who are not being collected early will continue with their normal school program and will be dismissed at the usual time of 3:30pm. Further information regarding interview bookings will be communicated shortly.

Please note that if you have already met with your child’s teacher this term as part of our Parent Support Group (PSG) cycle, there is no need to book an additional interview unless you would like to do so.

Thank you to our local café Station Mingle, for their small act of kindness. It’s a simple gesture that makes a big difference and is a lovely way to recognise the care, commitment and encouragement our staff provide to our students. Our staff have been so very surprised and grateful when getting their morning coffee.
