Sustainability at SJV

Marine Ambassadors check out the health of the local waterways.
Did you know that the health of our Port Phillip Bay, and in fact all our oceans, is impacted by what gets washed down our drains? All drains lead to the ocean…just like in the movie Nemo. The Ambassadors spent the day learning how the drains are connected to the bays and how to identify if the waterways are healthy. They also learnt about how the wetlands provide a safe habitat for wildlife, animals such as frogs and other freshwater invertebrates. They will be sharing this message with the middle years students later next week.
World Oceans Day
Last Sunday was World Oceans Day and there was lots of activity occurring around SJV to raise awareness and take action. This year’s theme was “Beat Plastic Pollution”. We hope we all can take some responsibility for this and find ways to REFUSE / REDUCE / REUSE / RECYCLE. Just small steps like, refusing to buy fruit and vegetables wrapped in plastic, because they are already in their own protective skins, why wrap them up in a product that never, ever, ever disintegrates.
