Dear SJV Families,

On Sunday the 15th of June some students from St John Vianney’s received the Eucharist for the first time. Congratulations to the following students:

Sibyl Armstrong, Edward Beasley, Xavier Casmi, Ivy Damiano, Ruby Damiano, Matilda Dawson, River Ellen, Elise Hendrie, Emilia Ludford-Brooks, Gigi Marziano, Mietta Marziano, Hudson Mefsut, Olivia Murray, Alice Naismith, Scarlett Pinto, Lucie Prince, Harvey Riley, Rocco Viviani, Max Wingrave and Naya Zamora

Thank you to Kerry Slater, Luke Brownhill, Laura Heiberg, Fr. Joseph, the parents and the children for making the First Communion such a special day and to the many staff who attended. These combined efforts have helped nurture the faith of our young disciples and made this milestone a truly prayerful and meaningful celebration.

"Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’" – John 6:35

SJV Athletics Carnival - Tomorrow

Tomorrow, we are holding our annual SJV Athletics Carnival. The carnival will be held at: Mentone Athletic Track (Dolamore Athletics Track), Dolomore Reserve, Queen Street, Mentone. It will start at 9:30am and go through until 2pm.   All of the Students from Years Prep to Year 6 will be travelling by bus to and from the Athletics track. Our departure time will be at 9:10am from school. All students will return back to school by approximately 3pm.

If any parents are available to assist on the day, could you please contact Mrs Monotti - dominique.monotti@sjvparkdale.catholic.edu.au

We will need at least two parent helpers from each class. Parents who can assist will need to meet at the track at 9:15am and stay until 2:30pm. Please make sure that you read through the information that was sent to you via a digital form last week.

We ask that students come dressed in their house colours and sports uniform. All children are asked to bring a packed lunch (NO LUNCH ORDERS ON THIS DAY) with a water bottle and plenty of healthy snacks. We encourage hats, sunscreen, beanies and coats depending on the weather. If it is raining tomorrow and we have to postpone the day, we will send a text message to all families by 9.30am.

Children will be taking part in gender heats in age groups; 9/10, 11 and 12/13 in these proposed events:

We are looking forward to a great day. Let's hope the weather gods smile up

Congratulations

A special congratulations to Joaqin Ortega and Xavier Scott for representing SJV in the Regional Cross Country championships.  This is an exceptional by both boys on making it this far considering over 75 schools were represented. A special mention to Joaqin who finished in 1st place in the multi-class event and now moves on to the State Championships. This is a great reward for Joaqin who had been training hard and prepared extremely well for this event.  Xavier is also to be commended as he showed great determination and resolve today in the regionals especially as he was battling an illness.

Stomp Program

Last Tuesday, the STOMP concert/disco and Pizza was a great event with just about every child in the school in attendance. Thank you to Tahlia from STOMP for the way she taught the program and arranged the concert with such energy and passion. I was very impressed with the disco moves of all of our students and some of our staff members as well.

Curriculum Update: Revised Victorian Curriculum Mathematics Version 2.0

We are pleased to inform you that the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA). have revised the Mathematics Curriculum, as Version 2.0. This mathematics curriculum is now fully implemented in our school. Here are the key points you need to know:

New achievement standards: The revised Mathematics Curriculum includes changes to the achievement standards used by teachers to assess and report student learning from Foundation to Year 10.

Aggregated reporting: Under the new curriculum, teachers will report against the achievement standard as a whole, providing a single, aggregated score in Semester 1 and Semester 2.

Alignment with local curriculum: Our school’s teacher judgements align with our Mathematics Curriculum program.

Strand-level information: Our school has recorded and used information from each of the six strands in Mathematics Version 2.0 to provide feedback on student progress.

Holistic judgement: At a school our teachers use learning evidence from the strands taught each semester to make a holistic judgement that accurately reflects where your child is on the learning continuum for Mathematics Version 2.0.

We believe these updates will provide a clearer and more comprehensive understanding of your child's progress in Mathematics. Please note that due to the change in curriculum, the Semester 1 report will only show achievement, while the Semester 2 report will display both achievement and growth.

SJV Fete

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 21st @ 3:30pm.

Tuesday 1st of July - Fete Meeting at 7pm - All are welcome to attend

If you are new to the school and haven’t been a part of the SJV Fete - now is the time to get involved.  The SJV fete is famous in this area, has been running for over 50 years annually (excluding two crazy Covid years) and is the most wonderful community event.

As a parent, you will get the chance to learn new skills, hone skills you have, make new friends and enhance the enjoyment of your own child’s school experience. There are many jobs in the lead up, on the day and the day after.  All families need to be involved to make this a successful event.

There are, however, a couple of larger roles that we need filled ASAP.  They come with a handover, so you won’t be left wondering what to do.

Craft Stall Coordinator/s

This person/s organises crafts to be made and sold at the event, often hosting evenings/daytimes to make crafts together.  All parents/grandparents made.

Silent / Live Auction Coordinator/s

This person/s organises and arranges a team that sources donations that can be auctioned live or can be a part of a Silent Auction for the night.

Reverse Raffle Coordinator/s

This person/s organises and runs the Reverse raffle for the night.

General Committee members

Assisting with marketing

Sourcing silent auction items

Supporting stall holders

Attending meetings

None of these tasks are onerous when we work as a team.  Thanks to those parents that have already stepped up to fill some roles.  It will be a wonderful experience.

Please contact Nate Viviani with any questions Nathan.Viviani@inchcape.com, the office or send an email to me, principal@sjvparkdale.catholic.edu.au to put your name down to be a part of this great event.

Remember, it is our big fundraising event for the year and we encourage every family to be involved in some way.

Parents & Friends Association - SJV Dads Group

Calling all dads to join the SJV Dads Group on WhatsApp. Scan the QR code below to join. This is a great way to communicate special events that are taking place for all the dads here at SJV. A special thanks to Matt Spencer for coordinating this.

2026  Enrolments

Our Requests for School Tours are continuing with many booking times to come and visit our wonderful school. Enrolments for Prep 2026 are now open and we encourage all families to submit their applications as soon as possible.  If you have a child or you know someone wanting to tour schools for their child, please encourage them to book a school tour by contacting Nicole in our front office (Limited places available).

Reminders

  • Dogs - Please note that for the safety and wellbeing of all members of our community, no dogs are permitted inside the school grounds and they must not be left unattended tied up at the gates. Adult supervision and holding of the leash is so important around vulnerable places such as schools.  We love dogs but we do have to take care of all members of our community.

  • Bikes and Scooters - Please walk bikes and scooters when moving through the school grounds.

  • Punctuality - It is expected that all students are to be at school by no later than 8.45am and not any time up to 9am. From 8.45am to 9am is crucial for students to get themselves organised, start the day with Meditation, prayer, take the roll and ready to commence their day promptly. Formal lessons begin at 9am. Any child who arrives at or after 9am is to be signed in at the office by a parent/guardian. I ask all parents to make sure that you adhere to these times.

  • The next Newsletter will be shared on Thursday 3rd of July.

Regards
