Teaching and Learning

Term 2
Education Week
It was wonderful to see so many families attend our community events at both Bundoora and Watsonia campuses for Education Week. Teachers opened their classrooms for families to participate in a range of engaging learning activities. As always, it was lovely to welcome so many families across both campuses — it is most definitely a highlight for students and staff alike, helping to strengthen our sense of community and connection.
Enjoy a snapshot of photos from the week!
Semester One Reports
Teachers have commenced the assessment cycle for Semester One reports. You may notice that reports will look slightly different this semester. This is due to an agreement made between the Department and the AEU, where full descriptive comments will not be included by union members as part of industrial action occurring this term.
We will still provide student achievement reports, which will be distributed on Tuesday 23rd June. These reports will include progress against your child’s Individual Learning Plan goals, along with work habits ratings.
We will, of course, be pleased to discuss your child’s progress further at our next SSG day, scheduled for Wednesday 24th June. In the interim, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact myself or your section leader.
Discovery Units
At Concord, we take an integrated approach to English, where students have opportunities to build knowledge and understanding through multiple exposures in both Reading and Writing lessons. While some schools refer to these as “units,” we call them Discovery Units, as they are connected to our Discovery Centre and are designed around hands-on learning experiences linked to the Language Experiences planned across the school.
This week, our Year 7/8 students participated in the Smiles and Sirens incursion facilitated by Victoria Police, which closely connected to their unit exploring why laws are important. I also had the pleasure of hearing Abdul from Upper Primary read his writing piece about My Amazing Body.
Concord is fortunate to have many creative teachers and leaders who thoughtfully plan engaging learning experiences that motivate and support student learning across the school.
Take care,
