From the Assistant Principal

Dear Families,

TURNING CIRCLE REMINDERS

Just a reminder of a few important requirements:

  • Children must enter and exit vehicles from the passenger side.
  • Drivers should NOT leave the vehicle during turning circle pick up.
  • Cars enter the queue at the roundabout end of Flora St. Out of courtesy for those waiting, do not turn right into the school grounds or come up from the library end of Belmont St.
  • Please remind grandparents and other family members of our expectations so that turning circle runs smoothly.
  • Please have your families surname clearly displayed in your windscreen for the teacher on turning circle to see.

ST PATRICK'S CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL CENTENARY

The following message went out on Compass earlier this week.

AMADEUS AGREEMENTS

The Amadeus Agreements for Year 3 and new students to our school went out on Monday this week. Please return the signed agreements as soon as possible.

For the remainder of 4-6, please chat to your child about how to care for the instruments and cases. This agreement was signed last year.

Please go through the following:

Treat the instrument with care and respect.

  • Regularly clean the instrument.
  • Keep the instrument stored in a dry space away from changes in temperature (such as in cars or near windows).
  • Bring the instrument to school on allocated days for small group tuition and ensemble rehearsals.
  • Report any damage or maintenance issue to the Instrumental Tutor immediately.
  • Report any loss or theft  immediately to the music teacher, tutor or the office.
  • Carry out basic care of the instrument according to the instructions sent home inside their instrument case.
  • Practice at home

ATTENDANCE REMINDERS

As the year gets underway it is timely to remind us all about the importance of attending school each day. As you can see by the image on the left, every minute of attendance counts.

If your child has to be absent from school, you must tell the school and provide a valid reason for your child's absence. At St Patrick's this is done through Compass.

It’s not just the full days off, either – Every Minute Counts!  Sometimes just a few minutes late of a morning can set your child back for the whole day - it’s all lost time which they can’t get back.

A student is deemed 'late' for school once the bell goes at 8.47am. This is when Compass registers the start of the school day. Teachers mark the class roll as soon as possible after this time.

Students who arrive at school after this time MUST enter through the office, even if the Turning Circle gate is still open.

A notification automatically goes out through Compass at 10.00am if a student has not been marked as present on the roll. Sometimes we have occasions where families have called after receiving this notification and your child is at school. Most classroom teachers will update rolls if students arrive late, but when a relief teacher is in the room, a paper copy of the roll is sent to the office by 9.00am and late arriving students are not re-marked on the class roll. This is why you may receive a notification like this.

If your child is absent from school, the best way to indicate their absence is to wait for the SMS message and follow the link to record the reason for the absence. Students who have been marked as not present and no explanation has been received within 7 days, are then marked as an 'unjustified absence' on the Compass Roll. The best way to avoid this is to add the reason as soon as possible following the absence. We send regular reminder notes to students who have recently been absent where no reason has been added to Compass prior to marking the absence as unjustified.

Thanks for your co-operation and support in this matter.

Have a great week,

Jim Heelis

Assistant Principal
