Welcome back to Term 2. It has been good to see everyone settle back into learning.

Camp

Year 7 Camp

Our Year 7 Camp planning continues with permission forms being due back as soon as possible. From the Year 7/8 Team’s point of view, we believe it is important that we have all students participate in this camp. Camp Coolamatong works really well with us and we ask for you to please work with us to overcome any barriers to your child attending so that they can get the full benefit.

Year 8 Camp

Year 8 camp planning is underway. Year 8 Camp is at the beginning of term 4 and will be at Karoonda Park. This camp will allow the students to develop leadership skills, build new friendships, challenge themselves in numerous situations, see their peers in a different light and step outside their comfort zone.

Around the Classes

Physical Education

In PE, Year 8 students are currently focusing on Soccer. Students are building their skills and playing friendly games of soccer to demonstrate skills and sportsmanship. Later in the term, they will also try out netball.

Maths

My favourite subject right now is Maths. I like Maths because I get to improve my maths and Mr Berryman is a great teacher. Right now, we are learning about area and perimeter. – Amber Beasley, 7E

English

My favourite subject is English. This term we are studying persuasive language and recently we have been looking at how different advertisements are persuasive. Miss Lewis makes it fun because sometimes she lets us write persuasively for different incentives including brain breaks and games. - Mia Anderson, 7C

Culture

Students in Year 7 and 8 are currently being exposed to and learning about several different countries’ cultures within their culture study, using a ‘cultural iceberg’ lens to understand different cultures in the world. At the moment, students are learning about and conducting research on Japan and it’s culture including Art, History and Geography. We have had a look at cultural prints and making our own country poster, I choose Sweden. we had a look at the cultural iceberg. overall, 5 stars. we have been doing well. – Lucas Brooks, 7A

So far, we have been working on the cultural iceberg, hidden and visible culture, PowerPoints on a different country, and answering some questions on printmaking. – Ashden Maddox, 7A

Year 7 and 8 Goals (Kurnai Positive Acknowledgments)

I would like to promote the continued fantastic start our students have made towards their learning. We understand the importance of celebrating the positive success our students demonstrate every day. This can mean showing improvement in the learning or behaviour right the way through to our high-end academic achievers. As you can see below the numbers of our positives are extraordinary and I encourage you to continue the conversations you are having at home about the positive choices our learners are showing every day. Since the start of the term, the following KPAs have been awarded to 7/8s.
