In Our Classrooms

Grandparents Day

Thank you to all our Grandparents and special friends for attending Grandparents Day. It was wonderful to see so many grandparents joining in our classroom activities, meeting their grandchildren's classroom teachers and spending time with peers. We would like to thank all the grandparents and special friends who attended for how they took the time to ensure all our students were included. We look forward to continuing this event in the coming years and continuing to build our College community.

Bundoora Farm - Prep Excursion

Our Prep students recently enjoyed their very first excursion - an exciting trip to Bundoora Farm to learn all about animals and their environments!

The day began with lots of smiles and excitement as students boarded the bus together, showing our school values by greeting the bus drivers politely and travelling responsibly. Once at the farm, students took part in an educational session where they learnt about composting and seed planting, discovering how small changes can help our environment.

A highlight of the day was the tractor ride around the farm! Students spotted emus and kangaroos along the way and had the chance to feed friendly goats and sheep. They also learnt a fun fact that alpacas and llamas may look similar, but llamas have ears that look like bananas! The Preps shared a lovely lunch together in the barn before more exploring, which included time spent gently patting the farm’s guinea pigs with some affectionately named Blueberry and Beyoncé.

By the end of the day, our Prep adventurers were happily exhausted and many even had a quick nap on the bus ride back to the College! The teachers were incredibly proud of how well the students represented Hazel Glen College and how they approached every activity with resilience, curiosity, and enthusiasm.

A big thank you to our wonderful parent helpers, the Prep classroom teachers, and a special mention to Mrs Trajcevski for her outstanding organisation of such a memorable day.

Year 5 Captain Process

A huge congratulations to all our Year 5 students who participated in the 2026 Primary Years Captain process. Over the term, our Year 5s have been focusing on speech writing in their classrooms, and all students were encouraged to write a speech to nominate themselves for the 2026 Primary Years Captain roles.

Our Year 5 teachers are so proud of their students who presented their speeches in Round 1, with each class voting for two classmates to represent them in Round 2. This week, the nominated students gave their speeches to the entire Year 5 cohort. Our teachers commented on the confidence, vision, and leadership potential shown by all nominees and commended the Year 5 cohort for the wonderful support and encouragement they showed their peers. Students have now been selected for interviews with the Leadership Team next week.

Once again, we are so proud of all our Year 5 students, who are soon to become the new leaders of the Primary Years.
