Caritas Solidarity Walk - Wednesday 21st May
As part of our final fundraising effort for Project Compassion, students will be taking part in a Solidarity Walk to support the important work of Caritas Australia. This walk symbolises our commitment to walking alongside those in need and brings our term-long focus on awareness and compassion to a meaningful close.
We’re proud to share that St Mary’s has raised over $400—an outstanding achievement for our small school community. Your generosity will help support communities experiencing poverty and hardship both in Australia and overseas.
If you would still like to contribute, last-minute donations can be made through Sandra at the school office.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our mission to make a difference.
New Leader of the Catholic Church
News broke overnight of the election of our new Pope – Pope Leo XIV. From early reports, he is described as a man of peace and justice, bringing with him the same energy and commitment we saw in Pope Francis. It’s heartening to see the Church continue in a direction grounded in compassion, dialogue, and hope.
In his first public message from the balcony of St Peter’s Basilica, Pope Leo XIV greeted the world with these powerful words:
“Peace be with you! May this greeting reach your homes, your families, and all corners of the earth.”
He reminded us that God walks with us, that we are never alone, and that evil will not prevail. His words struck a chord, calling us to be builders of peace and unity, to stand together in faith, and to extend love to all, especially those in need.
Pope Leo also spoke of his roots as an Augustinian, quoting St Augustine: “With you I am a Christian, and for you, a bishop.” That sense of humility and shared mission came through clearly, and it’s a timely reminder for us all to walk together in faith and service.
His message wasn’t just for the Church, but for all of humanity, an invitation to build bridges through listening, compassion, and action.
As a school, and as a faith community, let’s carry this spirit forward in our own lives. We keep Pope Leo XIV in our prayers as he begins this important journey, and we pray for peace, for unity, and for courage as followers of Christ.
