Landcare Grant - nesting boxes

On behalf of the Cavendish PS, Landcare Facillitator, Lisa McIntyre has been working very hard on writing a successful submission for the 2023 Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grant.

We were all thrilled to learn we had been granted funds to work, in collaboration with the Cavendish Men's Shed, to build timber nesting boxes to install around the school and Cavendish township.

On Tuesday 17 October at 2pm the whole school will be heading to the Cavendish Men's Shed for a tour and talk about the project.

On Wednesday, 25 October at 2pm at school we will hear talks from representatives of the Hamilton Field Nats and Birdlife Australia  about the importance of caring for our habitats and the creatures within them.

On Wednesday, 1st November the Years 4-6 will again head up to the Men's Shed to actually build the precut and drilled nesting boxes. We have 50 of them to build so helpers are welcome.

After construction is complete we will be painting linseed oil on them as part of a lunchtime task for enthusiastic students and friends (at school).

Finally before the end of the year we hope to install the boxes and set up wildlife cameras to record any visitors!

Interested parents and friends are invited to come along to any of our sessions!!
