Years F&1

Just like that it is the end of week 1. The students have settled back in nicely after what sounded like some fantastic holidays.

This week in reading we have been working on making predications. We read the stories 'Oi Cat', "Oi Dog', 'Oi Frog' and 'Oi Duck-billed Platypus'. The students are beginning to make some great predications about the stories, this is a great skill to practise when reading at home. They thought the books were funny and a little bit silly and were able to notice lots of rhyming words in the book.

In writing we have been working hard on our projects for the Fleece and Flower Show. The students have done a fantastic job taking notes on their chosen animal and selecting notes that relate to the subheading.

In maths this week we have been looking at fact families with addition and subtraction. We did this by drawing a triangle on our boards, rolling a dice twice and adding the numbers together. The students put all the numbers in the triangle and they were then able to write 2 addition and 2 subtraction questions. Hearing some of the students say they really enjoy the fact families or noticing them pick up the pattern has been amazing to watch this week. It has been great to see many of the students give themselves a challenge this week.
