Gippsland Year 8 Boys Cricket

The team first qualified for this match back in March, so it was great to see them come together and get another chance to represent the College. The match was in a 20/20 format. We couldn’t have asked for a better day to play cricket with a top of 31 degrees and barely any wind. The boys bowled and fielded first against Sale Catholic College, getting off to a good start and keeping the fielding tight. Sale was consistent in its run making, ticking along steadily. With BSC taking wickets occasionally, our bowling was very sensible and on point.

With the 20 overs completed, it was then our turn to have a bat and put some runs on the board. The session started off well with our openers taking their opportunities and putting willow to leather. As it is often the case in 20/20 cricket, the second innings is often the harder and more pressured time in the crease. Wickets started to fall more regularly, and runs were harder to come by as the innings went on. At the end the match we had come up short, losing by nearly 100 runs.

The team claimed 3rd position in the region, which was very commendable, all the while representing our College to such a high standard. Well done boys.
