Grade 5 Camp Report

Our Grade 5 camp at Creswick Log Cabin was three fun-filled days packed with adventure, laughter and unforgettable memories.

On the first day, we stepped back in time to the 1800s at Sovereign Hill, exploring life during the gold rush. We visited old mines, learned how miners needed licences to dig for gold, and explored fascinating places like the blacksmith workshop, the candle maker and, of course, the famous lolly shop!  We even got to try panning for gold! We stood by the stream with our pans, carefully sifting through the dirt, hoping to spot a little nugget of gold!

Day two was full of excitement at camp, with five amazing activities: giant swing, orienteering, zip line, initiatives course, and crate stacking, where everyone showed courage, teamwork, and problem solving skills. That night we ended the day with an epic disco — I think the whole of Ballarat could hear us singing and dancing! A special mention to Denholm, one of our helpers, this guy has serious Michael Jackson dance moves!!

On our last morning we were up early for hut making, and it was incredible watching each group plan, discuss and build their shelters. We finished camp by making damper and enjoying a cup of billie tea around the campfires, chatting with friends and reflecting on all the fun memories we will take away from an amazing camp experience.

A huge shout out to all of our camp helpers Miss A for organising, Mr Murphy, Miss Carden, Claudia, Mary, Paula, Jordyn, Mr Adams and Denholm – the camp would not be possible without your help! Thank you!!

Here are some of the Grade 5 students highlights:

Raf -  The disco and the giant swing was the best!

Evan - The zip line was really enjoyable and I loved having multiple turns.

Amaia - I enjoyed the whole thing and getting to wear casual clothes the whole time was great. All the activities were awesome!

Emily - It was so much fun building the huts on the last day!

Indi - Camp was awesome because I got to do lots of fun things with my friends!!

Kallista - The best part about camp was the giant swing, I was really scared to go all the way up but then when I pulled the cord it was actually a blast!
