Grade 2 Report

This term, our Grade 2 students are exploring the exciting world of Science through the topic of Sound. They have begun investigating how sounds are created and how they travel.
Did you know that sound is a form of energy? It is produced when something vibrates—moving back and forth very quickly. These vibrations can also cause nearby objects to vibrate. For example, when you strike a drum, its surface vibrates, producing sound. Although sound travels through the air, it cannot be seen.
To explore this concept, the class conducted a hands-on experiment. Students covered a plastic bowl with cling wrap and placed rice and sprinkles on top. When a drum was played nearby, the vibrations caused the rice and sprinkles to move up and down. The students observed that the closer the drum was to the bowl, the stronger the vibrations—and the more movement they saw.
Here are some photos capturing our discoveries!
