We have been learning about the various techniques used in charcoal drawing. These have include using different pressures to create light and dark lines, shading, smudging and using parts of the charcoal for textured effects.
F-3 have enjoyed messy fun using the charcoal to do leaf rubbings and yesterday they applied some of the techniques they had learnt and used charcoal pencils to sketch some of the large trees in our school yard. They demonstrated great focus during this activity and were very proud of their creations. I loved hearing them compliment each other’s work with such positive enthusiasm as well.
The 4-6 students also applied different techniques with their charcoal drawings. They completed some amazing nighttime pond illustrations following a step-by-step tutorial.
Last week, they applied the skills that they had learnt to sketch some of the beautiful eucalypt trees in our school yard. We had lovely sunny weather, and I was impressed by their focus and the standard of work that they produced. Their work will be on display around the school. Please feel free to come and view their wonderful sketches.
