Wandering Poet Incursion

On Monday 11 May, students across Years 7–9 participated in the Wandering Poet incursion. Sarah led students through the workshop, which culminated in a jointly constructed poem based on her own poetry on the banks of the Murray–Darling.

Students can also enjoy a selection of poetry on display in the Library.

The bright sun dances on top of the glistening river

The boisterous galahs swooped gracefully intending to catch prey

The curious trees sway to the tune the wind plays even with those people who twisted the lands important history

The bright sun glistens on the river belly.  The river copies the bright ring of fire in its own unique way

A man ventures on his odyssey with his man-made map

Melbourne Writers Festival

On Thursday 7th May, our students attended the Melbourne Writers Festival and had the opportunity to hear from award-winning and bestselling authors Karen Comer and Amy Doak, as well as fantasy authors Tigest Girma and Jasmin McGaughey during a panel discussion.

The highlight for many students was Andrew Marlton, Walkley Award-winning editorial cartoonist for The Guardian Australia and bestselling author of First Dog on the Moon and Revenge of the Toxic Space Potato. He was funny, engaging and had everyone laughing throughout his presentation.

It was pleasing to see our students’ engagement as they asked multiple questions to the presenters.

It was especially pleasing to see students so inspired by the experience that many asked to purchase books written by the authors they had seen.
