Spanish Term 2

Prep
This term in Spanish, Preps will begin the unit: "Las Partes del Cuerpo" (The Parts of the Body) using song, actions and fun videos to learn new vocabulary.
Students will engage in play to help consolidate the language and pronunciation, and students will begin to start writing in Spanish! Students will practise labelling drawings and start following the Spanish phonics system.
Grades 1 and 2
This term in Spanish, grades 1 and 2 will use their prior knowledge of vocabulary learnt throughout the Term 1 unit: "¿Como Esta el Día hoy?" (How is the Weather Today?) to begin our Term 2 unit: "El Tiempo y La Ropa" (The Weather and Clothing).
Students will use the familiar topic and teacher-modelled dialogue to interact with each other describing the weather and clothing we wear for different climates. Students will engage in song and videos, chants and actions, games and role play to practise the key vocabulary and dialogue. They may even get a chance to wear some of Señorita Vargas's clothes and accessories!
Grades 3 and 4
This term in Spanish, grades 3 and 4 will begin our term unit: "El Calendario" (The Calendar). Through repetition, games, song and videos, students will practise Spanish grammar and spelling as well as interacting and informing using the new vocabulary to create sentences about their personal experiences using teacher-modelled dialogue. Students will consolidate the new vocabulary by working towards producing their own calendar including personal important dates to display at home or in the classroom.
Grades 5 and 6
This term in Spanish, grades 5 and 6 will begin our term unit: "Paises de Habla Hispana" (Spanish-Speaking Countries). Students will learn about how widely-spoken Spanish is throughout the world; they will learn all the countries where Spanish is the national spoken language and in which continents they are located. Through song and video, they will practise pronouncing the countries in Spanish. Through games, they will practise locating countries on a map. Students will work in pairs or small groups to produce a project on a Spanish-speaking country using teacher-modelled sentences to present information.
