Physical Education Term 2

This term in Physical Education at Sunshine Heights Primary School, students across all year levels will be developing their skills and confidence through a focus on athletics and fundamental movement. Our Prep students will be introduced to modified athletics events in a fun and supportive environment. These activities are designed to build their basic motor patterns while also enhancing their perceptual motor skills, such as balance, coordination, spatial awareness, and reaction time. Through games and simplified events, Preps will gain confidence in moving their bodies in different ways while beginning to understand the foundations of athletics.
Students in Years 1 through 6 will be engaging in a combination of physical testing and athletics-based activities. Physical testing will allow students to track their progress in areas such as strength, endurance, speed, and agility, while also setting personal goals. Alongside this, students will be practising key athletics events such as running, jumping, and throwing, with a focus on technique, effort, and personal improvement.
For students in Years 1 to 3, these activities will help prepare them for their upcoming Sports Day, where participation, teamwork, and enjoyment are emphasised. Meanwhile, students in Years 4 to 6 will be building their skills and confidence in preparation for Athletics Day, where they will have the opportunity to apply what they have learned in a more structured and competitive setting. Across all year levels, the focus remains on encouraging active participation, personal growth, and a positive attitude towards physical activity.
