Visual Arts Term 2

Term 2 2026 Overview

Welcome to Term 2! We are excited to continue our creative journey in Visual Arts. This term, students will further develop their skills, knowledge, and understanding through engaging, hands-on experiences. Across all year levels, students will explore a variety of artists, techniques, and creative processes, while building confidence, curiosity, and imagination through art-making, viewing, discussion, and reflection.

In addition to learning aligned with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0, students have begun creating special artworks for our upcoming Art Show, an exciting opportunity to celebrate and showcase their creativity.

It’s hard to believe we are already in Term 2! Term 1 was a fantastic start, with students settling beautifully into the Art room and embracing their learning with enthusiasm. Our Art Show “Big Idea” has now been chosen: “The Continents Around the World.” Students contributed to brainstorming ideas, sharing stories about their own cultures, and discussing artworks they are familiar with. These rich conversations have helped inspire many of our lessons and creative directions.

During Term 1, students explored the theme of self-identity, what makes you, you before extending their thinking to the Earth and travel. Each year level created artworks connected to these ideas, using a range of techniques, skills, and their own imaginations. We also introduced the concept of continents and what they represent.

This term, each year level will focus on three continents: Africa, North America, and South America. Students will explore specific countries within these continents, learning about different artists, cultural traditions, histories, styles, and techniques.

Africa: Students will explore bold patterns, vibrant colours, and traditional art forms such as masks, often created using natural materials like wood, beads, and fabric.

North America: Students will learn about Indigenous art, focusing on storytelling, symbols, and connections to the land, including artworks such as totem poles.

South America: Students will investigate colourful textiles, murals, and patterns inspired by nature, festivals, and ancient cultures such as the Inca.

Through these experiences, students are developing an understanding that art is a powerful way people express their culture, beliefs, and identity around the world. We look forward to sharing the diversity and creativity of our school community through the Art Show.

A special thank you to our wonderful student leaders, Zelda and Iris, for their dedication and enthusiasm. They have been running fantastic lunchtime Art Club sessions that are fun, engaging, and inspiring. We are very proud of their leadership—future teachers in the making!

It’s shaping up to be a vibrant and inspiring term of creativity and learning;  we can’t wait to see what our talented young artists produce.

Please if you have any questions, want to chat or just say hi I am always out on yard duty at the end of the day!
