Year 12 VCE VM PDS Community Projects
Term 3 Week 8, our Year 12 VCE VM PDS students embarked on the implementation of their final Community Projects. Students worked in teams to plan a community event that focused on raising funds or awareness on a chosen community issue. Issues ranged from poverty, homelessness, mental health to community safety and domestic violence awareness. Students reached out to community stakeholders and organisations planning excellent community events and fundraisers for their chosen issues.
Throughout the week, student teams implemented their projects during Senior and Junior lunchbreaks. Some of the highlights of events and fundraisers included bake sales to support salvation army with their support of homeless people, Squishies food market stall raising funds to support Foodbank Australia.
We had a great turn out in our Friday events with staff participation in our Ice Bucket Challenge raising funds and awareness supporting Fight MND, Pie a Teacher raising funds for salvation army, our Teacher vs Student Basketball Games – Old School Vs New School – Raising awareness of Mental Health and the services provided by Headspace. We also had one team of students worked in partnership with Young Communities Melton who came out and had some activities, prizes and merch in support of Community Safety. We even had members of the local police force come out and spend some time with students.
The VCE VM PDS team would like to thank all students, staff and stakeholders who supported our Year 12s with their Community Projects. Huge thank you to staff members who were brave enough to take a pie in the face, bucket over the head and scrimmage on the basketball court with our students. You know who you are. Also, huge shout out to our Community Team for all the support throughout the week. We appreciate you all.
