Week 8 Parent Letter
Dear Year 2 families,
What a fun filled fortnight the Year 2’s have had. There has been lots to celebrate and much more to look forward to.
Reflecting on the events of the last two weeks:
Book Week
Book week was celebrated last Wednesday, starting the day off with a parade celebrating the theme of "A Symphony of Stories”. It was fantastic to see all the students dress up and enjoy sharing their favourite books and characters. The day also included a buddy activity with Year 3 and 4 classes and a visit from our guest storyteller Anna Manuel. Students had a wonderful day and thanks to all the families for all of the outfit planning and making the day such a memorable one for the students.
Healsville Sanctuary Excursion
On Thursday the students travelled to Healsville Sanctuary for their excursion. We were super lucky and the weather was perfect for exploring. They visited a host of native Australian animals and filled in facts and information about their chosen animal on their planning pro-forma sheets. This will build knowledge and help students complete their information reports back in the classroom in the coming weeks. The Birds of Prey show was a highlight for most students. The students did a fantastic job at representing ENPS and a huge thank you to the parent helpers who came along.
What’s happening in the classroom?
Mathematics
Students have completed their multiplication and division unit. They are now beginning to build their understanding and explore the concepts of length and measurement.
Literacy
Students are continuing with their Information Report unit. They are building on the knowledge and information collected on the excursion last week. Using the notes taken as well as supporting fact files, students will begin to create their own information reports.
Little Learners Love Literacy will continue a morphology focus on alternate and uncommon spelling sounds such as “dge” and “ou”.
Inquiry
Students will use their ideas collated over the last few weeks to begin designing their ‘ultimate playground’. It has been lovely to see collaboration and creativity flourish in these lessons.
Wellbeing
Students will continue Friendology lessons that focus on what to do and how to work through “friendship fires”. Helping them understand the importance of understanding that no friendships are perfect and choosing the right ways and times to talk it out to make stronger friendships in future.
Reminders
- Please continue to read regularly at home and return readers to school.
Term 3 is often the cold and flu season, with coughs and colds moving through the year level. Please keep your child at home if they are feeling unwell to help prevent the spread of illness.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
