Can Drive Casual Dress Day!
On Tuesday 3rd of December, the Student Leadership Team ran the final casual dress day for 2024. The theme was ‘festive’ with students encouraged to wear something that reflected the upcoming summer holidays. The donation required was a non-perishable canned food item. The cans were being collected for the Southern Peninsula Food For All, an organisation that provides emergency food relief for those in need all year round. At this time of year, the organisation is especially in need and the donation we collected will help those in need this Christmas. We collected approximately 800 items which were deposited on Wednesday 11 December at the distribution centre. The 2025 College Captains Arabella Laurie, Wes Fraser, Kash Slatter and Archie McMullin all attended and helped load the donations at the centre. The organisation was very appreciative and said that these donations will make a real difference. Thanks to the Music Department for their wonderful performance at lunchtime and to Lola Trewin for running Capture the Flag in the gym! The Dromana College community should be proud for yet again showing its generosity and community spiritedness! International Volunteer Day 2024
The week of community celebration continued on Thursday 5 December where Dromana College recognised International Volunteer Day and the vital contributions these selfless people make to our communities. This event was coordinated and planned by Student Leaders Louise Redhouse and Kash Slatter who organised for the Red Hill/Dromana CFA, Sorrento SES and local Victorian Police to attend with their vehicles and personnel at lunchtime. Many sirens and lights were turned on at full volume and the members of their respective organisations showed interested students their equipment and discussed opportunities to get involved. A sausage sizzle was also run nearby to raise money to support these important organisations. Thanks again for the volunteers and their time to attend this wonderful event.
College Captain Elections
For our 2025 Year 12 cohort, Jumpstart began with many students presenting their campaign speeches applying for 2025 College Captain. Students were asked to prepare a speech that outlined what legacies they would like to leave behind as a student at Dromana College.
Following the speeches, students each completed an interview with leadership staff, and Year 12 students and teachers had the option to complete a voting ballot for their preferred candidates.
Following the incredibly rigorous process, we are thrilled to announce that the 2025 Dromana College Captains are Kash Slatter, Archie McMullin, Wes Fraser, and Arabella Laurie.
Nepean Shield
The Nepean Shield, an award initiated by local MP Sam Groth, recognises the incredible efforts that students go to while undertaking student leadership responsibilities. The recipient is a student who consistently makes intentionally positive choices, is optimistic in attitude, and applies their best effort in all they accomplish.
Our 2024 recipient of the Nepean Shield is 2024 Year 12 Arts Captain Holly Wild! Throughout the year, Holly always participated in Student Leadership meetings, activities, and priorities, giving everything her all.
On Wednesday 11th December, Sam Groth came to Dromana College to personally present her with the perpetual shield to be displayed in the Dromana College front office, and a personal plaque for her to keep. Congratulations again, Holly!
