Year 1 Sapphires

We have continued to be busy learners with increasing motivation and enthusiasm for learning. Our class has been building our fluency when reading and Mrs Cotter continues to be impressed with our evolving love of books and reading. This term, we are learning about the persuasive style of writing and how to give reasons to justify our opinions. The books Click, Clack, Moo - Cows That Type and The Day the Crayons Quit are giving us good examples of the structure of persuasive letter writing and techniques that grab the reader’s attention. In Maths, we have been learning about fractions, and we were very happy to show our understanding by making fairy bread and cutting it into halves and quarters…before gobbling it up! We have been learning about the place value of numbers and playing some fun maths games to help us. Our class is very excited to start rehearsing for our Stage 1 Armidale Community of Schools (ACOS) performance, Farmer Duck. We also learned about online safety when Harold and the Life Education Van visited our school.

Mud Kitchen

The children in Primary have really enjoyed being creative with their new mud kitchen in the playground.

Year 2 Emeralds

Emeralds showcased their creativity by presenting a puppet play to the Year 1 class to retell the story of Where the Wild Things Are. Working collaboratively in small groups, they nominated a scribe to record the play script. Each group member contributed ideas as they recalled the story beginning and sequence of events. The next step involved designing the puppets to portray the characters of the story. With great enthusiasm Emeralds retold the story with their wild things gnashing their terrible teeth and rolling their terrible eyes. Year 1 enjoyed the plays and showed their appreciation with a well-deserved round of applause.

In Mathematics, Emeralds have been developing their skills in estimating and then efficiently counting the quantity of a collection. Working with a partner they filled a cup with small blocks and then drew ten-frame structures on their whiteboards to accurately count the total. Would you believe one cup holds around 135 small blocks?

Life Education Van

Students in K-2 had a visit from Happy Healthy Harold last week. They were very excited to see him in the Life Education Van. Students enjoyed learning about friendship and how to be safe online.

Great Aussie Bush Camp

Thank you to the parents, students, teachers, support staff and the P&C for making the Great Aussie Bush Camp such a success. All of the students and teachers had an amazing few days at camp where students had the opportunity to engaged with a number of experiences that they normally don’t get at school. Students were encouraged to step out of their comfort zones and try something new.

The Stage 3 students got the opportunity to experience a 14m giant swing, to climb and jump from the Power Fan in the rain, climb through the trees in an awesome high ropes course, practice their fencing skills and race to climb stacks of crates. They also got the opportunity to build a raft with the plan of making it across the lake without getting wet. Something that nobody managed to achieve, however they all had a great swim.

Stage 2 students got the opportunity to do the high ropes, giant swing, rock climbing and got to go off site to some amazing sand dunes. Students braved the drizzling rain to run up and down these enormous dunes. Canoeing was another great experience for students many of them never having done it before. Thankfully, nobody capsized.

All of the students and staff had an amazing time at camp with everybody going away with their own highlights of the trip. It was great to see so many students having a go.
