Transition Programs 

Last week marked the beginning of our transition programs for future students. Our Kindergarten Stay and Play sessions, along with parent information, were held on Tuesday, and our Year 6 to 7 parent and student information evening was held that same night. 

We will continue to support incoming Year 7 students and their families through small group and individual tours of our school facilities, leading into their first transition day on 29 June. 

Our Kindergarten transition program will continue, as outlined in the Kindy Start transition flyer, with sessions scheduled over the coming months. 

We look forward to getting to know our future students for 2027 and welcoming them into our school community. 

 

Incredible Student Opportunities at Boorowa Central School 

I’m amazed and proud of the many opportunities our staff provide for students both in and out of the classroom and would like to celebrate these. Our teachers and staff work extremely hard to give students experiences that help build confidence, leadership, teamwork and new skills. 

Students have had or will have the chance to take part in the ADF Navy Familiarisation four-day excursion in Wollongong, the Parliament of NSW Secondary Schools Leadership Program in Sydney, Do It For Dolly activities, National Simultaneous Storytime, Mortimer Shield in Young, the PSSA Cricket Knockout, the Central Schools Rugby League and Netball Competition in Coolamon, Explore UC and the Stage 5 STEM Challenge Day in Young. 

These opportunities take a lot of planning, organisation and extra time from staff, who willingly support students well beyond normal classroom lessons. 

While many students show appreciation, cooperation and a positive attitude, it can be disappointing when staff are met with comments such as, “No” or “I’m not doing this or I don’t care” during class activities. Choosing not to follow instructions or refusing to participate does not meet our school expectations of being respectful, responsible and involved in learning. 

The school’s PBL focus this week, is for students to understand that being involved in excursions, sport and special activities also means showing positive behaviour and effort in the classroom each day. Poor behaviour choices and ongoing refusal to cooperate will continue to be managed through our school discipline procedures and may affect whether students are invited to future activities and events. 

We greatly value the support of parents and carers in backing the school’s expectations and procedures. When families and schools work together, students are more likely to succeed and make the most of the opportunities available to them. 

We encourage all students to appreciate the opportunities being offered, respect the efforts of staff and make positive choices that help them learn, grow and represent our school proudly.
