Feast Of Pentecost
It was a wonderful celebration of all of our different cultures that makes Holy Family special and unique.
Pentecost is the fifteth day after Easter. It is where Jesus commisioned his closest followers to go out and spread the 'Good News'. Those first disciples, led by Peter, took the message throughout the world and they must have done a very good job, demonstrated by the global Church today.
It is an important feast to recognise that the Church, as we know it, is not simply a building. It is a group of people who come together. Those people make up the Body of Christ.
This is beautifully captured by St Teresa of Avila
Teresa of Avila (1515–1582)
Christ Has No Body
Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are his body.
Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
compassion on this world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.
