Privacy.

You may notice that we do not publish many photos of our students. This is deliberate to protect your child's privacy. Many schools use regular videos to market their school, or use of digital signs or billboards with photos, however, we have made the decision to use less and less of these, and only when we have sought permission, or on more closed networks. We also make an effort to use photos that do not show our students faces.

I have been to professional learning and heard from other schools some really concerning stories about how students photos have been altered using AI to put them  in compromising positions. This is concerning, but a reality. Pope Leo has just released his first encyclical about AI, highlighting concerns that big tech is putting profits before humans.

The flip side is that we want to share the great things our students do, and our community love seeing your children. It is about consent. We will be taking some photos for a new prospectus, and I will be asking some families for that consent to photograph your children.

I allow my children, such as with the dance group or auskick, as I realise that photos of our kids will often end up out there anyway, with no malice intended. However, I also will continually speak to my children about the risks and I keep informed about the risks via trusted sources such as the esafety commission. There are many people our there 'selling' the bad news. They call for strict bans, their concerns are valid, their message is not always helpful. That is because it suggests we can completely isolate our kids from the world they live. What we know, is that just like the 16+ social media delay, it never works completely, though helps to raise awareness, children and people find a way. Being aware and informed is the key.

We will continue to be smarter with images, use less of them but also communicate openly about the risks.

Building:

You will notice much more activity with the building. The roof will come off, and be rebuilt over the next four weeks. The windows will come off and be reinstalled over the coming two weeks and steel framing will be going up for the new decking area. Less rain would be ideal! The plan is to be in there at the start of Term 4.

Learning:

We have really focused on our intervention within the school. Intervention, at its core, is identifying a specific need and providing targeted support to address the need. This is not just for students who are finding learning hard, but also for students who need extension. It looks different at different levels, however is all targeted at accelerating growth. You can always assist by having a discussion with your child's teacher about a specific need that can be supported at home.

National Reconciliation Week: All In

On Wednesday we held an assembly to explore Reconciliation Week. I have added a video of our artist Adam, who is a well known Bunurong Artist, explaining the thinking behind his work and also what he hopes for students to learn about our local Bunurong land.

Prep Showcase

We invite all of our Prep families to be involved in the Prep Showcase this Wednesday. It will be an opportunity to see how we teach your children and some of our best tips to support your children.

Assessment Period

Your children will be completing a series of assessments in the coming weeks to track growth. Growth is our most important measurement. Students start from different levels, but we track growth to ensure that your children are set up to achieve their best.
