Each year on 26 July, the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of Saints Joachim and Anne, the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the grandparents of Jesus. We warmly invite all Grandparents and special friends to take part in our morning at school tomorrow, Friday 24 July.
Although very little is known about their lives, Saints Joachim and Anne hold a special place in our faith as they remind us of the important role that families play in passing on faith, values and love from one generation to the next. Their example highlights the quiet yet profound influence that parents and grandparents have in nurturing children, supporting them through life's challenges, and helping them grow in wisdom, kindness and faith.
As a school community, this feast day provides a wonderful opportunity to give thanks for the grandparents and older members of our families who enrich our lives through their love, care, encouragement and the stories they share. Whether they live nearby or far away, are still with us or remembered with love, grandparents leave a lasting legacy in the lives of their families.
We invite our students to take a moment this week to pray for their grandparents and to thank them for the many ways they have helped shape who they are. May Saints Joachim and Anne continue to inspire all families to be places where faith, hope and love are nurtured each day.
"Lord, bless our grandparents and all those who lovingly guide the next generation. May the example of Saints Joachim and Anne remind us to treasure family, share our faith with joy, and grow together in your love. Amen."
