Message from the Principal 

What a Night!

What a fantastic night we had at our Greenhills Disco last Friday! It was so lovely to see our students having such a wonderful time — dancing, laughing, running around with their friends and, in some cases, showing us dance moves that I certainly couldn't keep up with!

A huge thank you to all our amazing parent helpers who gave up their Friday night to help make the evening such a success. Your support, energy and willingness to pitch in are what make these events so special. A very big thank you also to our wonderful Parent Association for all that you do to bring our community together and create these opportunities for our students.

And, of course, our biggest thank you goes to Jonathan Jayarajan. The amount of work, time and organisation that goes into putting an event like this together is enormous, and Jonathan did an incredible job of making sure everything came together so smoothly. We are incredibly grateful for all the time and effort he put in to give our students such a fantastic night.

It was one of those nights that reminds us just how lucky we are to be part of such a wonderful school community. Thank you to everyone who helped, supported, organised and, most importantly, came along and enjoyed the night. Greenhills certainly knows how to throw a disco!

CHILDRENS BOOK WEEK – DRESS UP PARADE

At Greenhills we love to celebrate all things reading. A highlight of this is our dress up parade as part of the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Annual Book Week. This will be held on Tuesday 25th August at 9.15am on the Tigerturf.

The theme for this year is “Symphony of Stories”. Time to start thinking about that costume! You can read more about Greenhills love of reading in the Teaching & Learning section of this week’s newsletter. This reinforces the importance of families reading with their children at home – you can never do too this too much.

GETTING READY FOR 2027

Welcoming Our 2027 Preps

It has been wonderful to see so many prospective families visiting Greenhills over the past few months, and we are delighted to now have 74 Preps enrolled for 2027. We are really looking forward to welcoming our newest Greenhills families and beginning the journey of getting to know them and their children. Of course, we also have many younger siblings of our current Greenhills families starting their journey here as well.

On Monday 10th August, we start our “Experience Greenhills” sessions with our 2027 Preps visiting the Performing Arts room. The 2027 preps will also visit our other specialist areas each week over the next month, as we build towards our students starting school next year. 

This program is such an important part of helping our students feel comfortable, curious and connected before they officially begin school. Over the coming months, the program includes 12 hours of time onsite where our Preps will have opportunities to meet their teachers, explore their new classrooms, become familiar with our routines and, importantly, begin to build friendships with the children they will start school alongside. Our hope is that when the first day of Prep arrives, our newest students already feel a strong sense of belonging and excitement about being part of the Greenhills community. We can't wait to welcome them!

On each of the Experience Greenhills dates, we will also be hosting short parent sessions in the multi-purpose room (where TeamKids Operate). This will be a GREAT chance to catch up for a chat and find out a little more about our school. The sessions are open to all our parents and carers, not just our Prep 2027 ones!

The session outlines are as follows:

Monday 10th August 2026 – “Reading” presented by Sharon Draper who is one of our Literacy experts. Sharon will talk about literacy at home and how to spark a love of reading.

Monday 24th August 2026 “Student Agency” presented by Krysten O’Leary (Learning Specialist). Krysten will share some insights into what Student Agency looks like across our school and the way we are enabling our students to develop their learner agency through our High Impact Learner Agency Traits.

Monday 31st August 2026 “Number Fluency” presented by Nigel Dunne (Learning Specialist). Nigel will talk about ways to engage with math’s at home and how we teach mathematics through the school.

Monday 7th September 2026 “Social & Emotional Learning” presented by Jess Johnston (Learning Specialist and Mental Health & Wellbeing Leader). Jess will talk about her role at the school and the development of our Social & Emotional Learning curriculum.

Monday 14th September 2026 “Q & A” with the Principal team. We will share some news about things happening around our school and have plenty of time for questions.

HILAT Focus: Pursuing Goals

At Greenhills, we want our students to take ownership of their learning by setting goals, making plans and reflecting on the progress they make along the way. Our weekly reflection question is a simple way to continue these conversations at home and encourage children to think about how they can keep growing as learners.
