GOOD LUCK TO OUR LIGHTNING PREM. BASKETBALL TEAMS!
Tomorrow we have our LP Basketball girls and boys teams head to Stonnington Sports Centre in Chadstone to compete against other Dendy teams in the Dendy LP Basketball tournament. Coming from pretty good form at their recent Hooptime day of games, we have no doubt they will represent our school well and do their best! A massive thank you to the many parents that are assisting with car-travel, coaching and scoring for these teams. Gooo St. Finny’s!
GOOD NEWS TO SHARE!
We love to celebrate the efforts of our students here at St. Finbar’s and this week, we’d like to share an achievement of one of our Year 5 students. Congratulations goes to Evelyn N (5B) who recently passed a Judo practical and knowledge test called a grading at the Judokan Judo Club and has now been awarded a Junior Yellow belt!
This is no easy task and requires a great deal of practice. Evelyn has been learning Judo since she was 9 year old and has enjoyed learning all about this sport. Judo today is both a sport and a martial art. The sport has well defined rules to ensure safety as far as possible and maintain the mutual respect ideals governing the players, referees and officials. Through the sport training, there is a path to the martial art, but mainly for those with advanced skills and experience. Judo has a strict sense of value. Self Control, Honour, Patience, Honesty, Courage, Friendship, Courtesy, Humility, Respect.
Congratulations Evelyn on being awarded your yellow belt.
UPCOMING JUNIOR HOOPTIME
Our Year 3 & 4’s HoopTime teams enjoyed their first training session in their teams this week. It was great to see them all so keen and positive in adapting to playing with their team mates. A massive thank you to all the parents that offered their days to coach, score and support the teams on their tournament day. We wish our six teams all the very best for their upcoming Hooptime tournament at Nunawading stadium on Tuesday 16th September in Week 9.
TERM 4 - DIARY THIS DATE NOW…
WHOLE SCHOOL SWIMMING CARNIVAL
Our Term 4 sporting highlight is our Whole School Swimming Carnival, set to take place on Friday 28th November. This year’s carnival is to take place at MSAC in the large outdoor undercover pool. The Junior and Senior carnival will be run in the same pool, with a midway boom separating the carnival.
PARENTS: Please lock this date into your diaries now! This event does require the wonderful support from numerous parent helpers for both the Junior (P-2) and Senior (3-6) carnivals. An Operoo email with all relevant details will be sent out to all families in early Term 4.
