Foundations

The FREE Foundations Program will be held at St Philips again this term on Thursdays, starting on the 1 August.

6am – 7am for 11+

4.30pm – 5.15pm for 4 – 10-year-olds

 

This is a fun and challenging program suitable for all ages, abilities, sports and interests. Come along to get fit and develop your speed and strength.

Workshop with Sami Bayly

Multi-award-winning natural history illustrator and author Sami Bayly finds the beauty in all animals regardless of their appearance or reputation and enjoys sharing this appreciation with people of all ages. 

 

Sami has published 5 children’s books including the much-loved series, The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Ugly Animals, The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Dangerous Animals and The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Peculiar Pairs in Nature.Sami’s workshops provide a great mix of education and entertainment. Sami loves to turn complex scientific terms and theories into easily digestible information that will stick with participants for life.

World Suicide Prevention Day Event

MHACA will be having a World Suicide Awareness Prevention Day Event at the Council Chamber Lawns on 10th September from 12pm – 1.30pm. We will be having a Welcome to Country and Traditional Healing Ceremony, speakers, music, health promotion stalls, and a free healthy BBQ at this event.

Bush Bands Bash: Celebrating 20 Years

Bush Bands Bash is not just a music festival; it is a celebration of Indigenous culture and a platform for these talented bands and artists to share their art with a wider audience. It is also the culmination of a four-day development workshop honing performance skills and building music business knowledge.

 

This year's Bush Bands Bash promises to be another unforgettable experience for music lovers of all backgrounds, uniting communities and celebrating the rich tapestry of Australia's cultural heritage.

Need any Sports Trainers for your Sport? Sports Med Australia are running their next Level 1 course on the 11th August, 8.30am – 5pm.

 

Alice Springs Masters Games is just around the corner and they are looking for anyone over the age of 18 who might like to help the Games out by supporting the 29 sports as a Sports Trainer. Don’t forget to register to compete and/or Volunteer for the Games before registrations close.  

Young Territory Author Awards

Apr 5th - Aug 27th 2024

The Young Territory Author Awards (YTAA) are an annual writing competition where entrants write and produce their own book. The Awards aim to inspire children and young people in the NT to explore their ideas and turn them into stories. The competition is open to all Territorians 18 years and under and is organised in association with other public libraries and schools throughout the Northern Territory. Entries close 27 August 2024 and the winners will be announced at a presentation in Darwin in November 2024.   

 

There are lots of prizes to be won: 

  • The Young Ter­ri­to­ry Author of the year receives $500.
  • The School Entry win­ner receives $500 for the school.
  • The Children’s Book Coun­cil of Aus­tralia N.T. WOW award, win­ner will receive $200.
  • Region­al area win­ners receive a $50 prize.
  • Age Cat­e­go­ry win­ners receive $50 vouch­er to the Book­shop Darwin.
  • High­ly Com­mend­ed in each age cat­e­go­ry receive a $30 vouch­er to the Book­shop Darwin.
  • Encour­age­ment Awards in each age cat­e­go­ry receive a $20 vouch­er to the Book­shop Darwin.

 

Entries are con­sid­ered in all cat­e­gories they are eli­gi­ble for. The cat­e­gories include:

No Lights No Lycra is a weekly lights-off chance to dance in the dark for the pure joy of dancing. It’s a place to shake out the stresses of the week, let go of your inhibitions and completely be yourself.

It occurs in over 75 locations around the world, and Alice Springs sessions are on Thursday nights at 6pm at Red Hot Arts, 67 Bath St. Casual passes are $10, and you can buy a 10 pack for $100 (plus you get one class free!) cash or card. 

Women of STEM

To help provide opportunities for young women, last year we launched our Women of STEM Scholarship for women aged 18-20 who are entering their first year of a STEM degree at university. 

 

The Women of STEM Scholarship is a national program and provides women with financial grants of $5,000 per year for the life of their degree, up to a maximum of 5 years . This year we have awarded scholarships to three exceptional female students.
