Dear Families & Friends,
What an amazing few weeks we’ve had.
The Junior Round Square leaders organised our College Captain election last week and demonstrated the importance of democracy and the power of one’s vote. The Hall was transformed into a polling place with confidential voting booths and ballot boxes. Thanks to Mrs Roxanne Egan and Ms Tammi Renshaw for providing essential support and training to our young leaders.
Science Week, organised by Mrs Linda Tsai, saw a range of activities for students to participate in during Tutor Group and during the breaks each day. Developing their curiosity and increasing their knowledge of all things science gave students the opportunity to be active learners.
Last Friday we moved to the Head Street Oval for our annual Athletics Carnival. All students were required to complete a 100 metre run, a long jump and a shot put. Many records were broken on the day, and I’m sure there were some tired and sore legs over the weekend. Congratulations to Griffiths House for the win.
On Wednesday we held the Induction Ceremony for our new school leaders. This was a bittersweet moment as we farewelled the outgoing crop of outstanding leaders and welcomed the new cohort. The Year 12s are now free to put their efforts into completing schoolwork and preparing for exams.
Congratulations to our new leaders who put their hands up to provide a much-needed service to our community. They completed the required training which included participating in the Advanced Aspire Outdoor Ed expedition. The challenges they faced and the resilience they built should equip them for the responsibility that comes with leadership. They will continue to be provided with further training and support from our staff as they undertake this journey. We also took Wednesday’s assembly to finally acknowledge the academic achievements of our Year 11s last semester.
Two days of school photos were undertaken this week. There is nothing that shows the growth and development of our students over the years than this annual event. It is getting increasingly difficult to even recognize some students from their photos last year. I’d like to thank Mrs Yvette Valentine for the organisation and effort she put into these days to make them go as smoothly as possible.
There’s plenty to look forward to next week as the much-anticipated musical Annie will be performed on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. If you haven’t gone online to get your tickets, you better hurry as they are selling fast. You can also order a meal from the Rivergum Café to start your evening off. I wish everyone involved in this huge undertaking to “Break A Leg.”
Kind regards,
Leslie
