German Exchange Students Visit Vermont Secondary College

From Wednesday, 8th October to Friday, 31st October, Vermont Secondary College had the pleasure of hosting students from the Integrierte Gesamtschule Kaufungen (IGS) in Kassel, Germany. The German students stayed with local host families and immersed themselves in Australian life, experiencing both cultural and recreational activities.

Highlights included visits to Healesville Sanctuary and Brighton Beach, creating Indigenous art, learning to play AFL and cricket, and even trying their hand at surfing at Phillip Island. Trips to Melbourne’s CBD offered opportunities to explore iconic sites such as the Queen Victoria Market, the MCG, Eureka Skydeck and a river cruise down the renowned Yarra River.

One of the standout moments of the program was a buffet dinner in the second week, attended by over 80 people. It was a wonderful opportunity for students, families, and teachers to come together and celebrate the exchange program.

We extend heartfelt thanks to all the host families for their generosity, and to the Vermont Secondary College teachers for welcoming the German students into your classrooms. Your support made this exchange a truly memorable experience for everyone involved.

Looking ahead, the excitement continues as the Australian exchange students prepare to visit Kaufungen in Kassel, Germany in March 2026!
