EMR FINALS

Year 7 Boys/Mixed Cricket

We started off our day with a bye, which meant we advanced to a semifinal against Ashwood SC. We started by batting first and losing a wicket in the first over, however we went on to lose no more wickets and post a massive total of 144 in 15 overs. We then bowled keeping it very tight and restricting Ashwood to 5/63 after their 15 overs and advancing through to the eastern region final which we would be playing against Kew SC. We batted first in the final making 80 before we lost our first wicket as we finished with 107. We then bowled taking 6/5 in the first 2 overs before we eventually bowled them all out for 65, winning us the carnival. Well done and thank you to everyone on the day, especially Mr. Duiveman and Mr Davies.

Boys/Mixed Baseball

The VSC Year 8 Baseball team displayed true team spirit throughout the day, genuinely supporting each other, no matter what their role was in the team.  So wonderful to see!  This united approach resulted in great success for the team.

In their first game they beat Lilydale Heights 10-0.  Whilst the team showed great batting and baserunning, even more impressive was their work in the field, denying the opposition from being able to get on base at all.  In game two Vermont faced Mullauna who were stronger competition, but the result was similar with the end score being 9-0.  Again Vermont had many impressive hits and ran the bases hard to seize the most of their opportunities.  The defensive determination to deny the opposition scoring was just as impressive with a multitude of strike outs and some great plays to throw runners out on the bases. Next up was Mooroolbark in the final, who were also undefeated in their pool.  As expected, this was our toughest competition for the day, however our Vermont team continued with the same fierce approach that we’d seen in action all day.  The game was called early when Vermont reached an unassailable lead of 7-1 in the bottom of the third inning.

Whilst excited to be region winners and heading off to the state championships, the team is also to be commended for sportsmanship demonstrated throughout the day and the respect they showed their opposition.  Congratulations to all members of the team on their efforts and contribution to the results.  Special mentions to Tony, Albert and Jordan for their outstanding pitching and multiple homeruns between them.
