🎾 Thea’s Tennis Triumphs! 🏆

Over the school holidays, Thea (56D) achieved outstanding success on the tennis court,

representing her region with determination and skill across several major tournaments.

A standout highlight was Thea’s incredible performance at the Victorian State Finals, where she finished as runner-up in both the Under-12 Singles and Doubles events. The State Finals bring together the top junior players from across Victoria, making this an exceptional accomplishment.

Throughout the tournament, Thea displayed impressive consistency, tactical awareness, and resilience — battling through multiple rounds and tight matches to reach both finals. Her performances earned high praise from players and parents alike, reflecting her growth and commitment to the sport. Thea also continued her strong form at the Western Melbourne Junior Tournament, finishing as runner-up in the Under-14 Doubles, competing strongly against older and more experienced players.

Adding to her list of achievements, Thea has been selected to represent Victoria in the 2025 Bruce Cup, a prestigious national primary schools tennis championship run by School Sport Australia. The Bruce Cup pits the best young players from each state and territory to compete for national honours, combining high-level competition with a strong focus on teamwork and sportsmanship. This year’s tournament will be held in Ballarat in October, and Thea’s inclusion in the Victorian State Team is a tremendous honour, reflecting her outstanding results and dedication to the sport.

To top off an incredible run, Thea was also a key member of the Under-13 Northern Suburb Junior Tennis Association team, which went on to win the prestigious Pat Pearce Cup — an annual state-level inter-association competition celebrating teamwork, sportsmanship, and excellence.

With the recent performances, Thea has further risen in the Under 12 girl’s rankings, now holding 14th position in Victoria and 40th nationally.

Thea and her family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to our principal, Nathan, and all her teachers, especially her class teacher Rich, at Carlton Gardens Primary School, for their encouragement and ongoing support of her tennis aspirations.

Regional Athletics

Carlton Gardens recently had two students represent us at the Regional Athletics Carnival. Having competed at our CGPS athletics, then subsequently district and division meets, Tate from 56E and Sophie from 4A took part in regional Athletics in shotput and 100 meter hurdles respectively. Progressing this far in any endeavour is an incredible achievement, so make sure you give them a fist bump and congratulations if you see them in the playground!

♟️ Carlton Gardens Chess Team Triumphs at Interschool Tournament  🏆

The Carlton Gardens Primary School Chess Team delivered an exceptional performance at the recent Carlton Gardens Interschool Chess Tournament, achieving 2 gold medals, 1 silver, 4 bronze, the Star of the Tournament award, and 1st place overall as a school!

This was our largest team to date, with many new players inspired to join after the launch of the student-run Chess Club earlier this year . Hosting the tournament on home ground gave our students extra confidence — and their results reflected it. Every player contributed to this remarkable team effort through focus, strategy, and great sportsmanship.

Several students also earned enough points to qualify for the semi-finals next week, where they’ll proudly represent CGPS once again. The team is already preparing for the challenge and looking forward to building on their success.

We’re incredibly proud of all our players for their hard work, enthusiasm, and team spirit. Their commitment continues to make Carlton Gardens a strong and inspiring presence in the interschool chess scene.
