Welcome Back to Term 4:

It has been a wonderful start to what promises to be an exciting and rewarding final term of the year. I warmly welcome all students, staff and families back to Brigidine College and thank our community for the enthusiasm and commitment that continue to make our school such a vibrant place of learning.

We commenced the term with a highly successful Welcome Back Assembly, bringing our community together to celebrate new beginnings, recognise achievement and set a positive tone for the weeks ahead. A highlight of the assembly was the commissioning of our student leaders. It was a proud moment as we formally entrusted these young women with the responsibility of leading our College community through service, integrity and compassion. We congratulate our newly commissioned leaders and look forward to witnessing the positive impact they will have throughout the year. These same leaders were instrumental in organising a large group of students who represented the College at the annual Maroubra Fun Run on 25 October. All the participants looked as though they thoroughly enjoyed the day. We also dedicated our prayer to our ex-student Mia Lay, who passed away in the line of duty for the NSW Police Force.

Student Achievement:

Another special celebration this term has been the outstanding achievement of Letayah G, who recently received the School-Based Apprenticeship and Training Award for First Nations Students at the UNSW Health Hub. This prestigious recognition acknowledges Letayah's dedication, perseverance and commitment to pursuing opportunities in the health sector.

Letayah's achievement is particularly significant as it represents more than an award; it highlights the pathways that school-based apprenticeships and training can provide, opening doors to further study, valuable industry experience and future employment opportunities. Her success serves as an inspiration to her peers and demonstrates the importance of embracing opportunities that connect learning with real-world career pathways.

We are immensely proud of Letayah and congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition. We look forward to seeing her continue to flourish as she pursues a future in the health and allied health professions.

Year 12 2027:

It has been a busy few weeks for our Year 11 students as they transition into Year 12. They have recently completed exams to conclude their Preliminary courses before embarking on their HSC courses. They also gathered for our Parent-Teacher Evening to receive valuable feedback on their progress and discuss the steps needed to achieve their full potential.

We followed this with our Year 12 2027 Information Night, and we thank all the wonderful parents and carers who attended to receive an outline of what lies ahead over the coming year. A guest speaker from the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) spoke about subject selection, mark scaling and how ATARs are calculated—delivering a timely message on the importance of working earnestly right from the start. This was accompanied by the release of reports finalising the Year 11 component and providing clear guidance on areas for continued improvement.

You will notice our wonderful new front office area, and many thanks to the parents who have commented on what a great addition it is to the College. The wall bordering Aeolia Lane is also nearing completion, which will allow our new Year 12 students to move back into the space near their lockers, hopefully by the end of the year.

Years 7-10 are currently in the process of their end of year assessments. Good luck to all the students in their upcoming assessment tasks and extra-curricular activities!

Faith & Mission:

You will notice a few additions to the faith perspective around the school. Alongside the banner in the front office, our Brigidine artwork is nearing completion on the front wall of the reception area. Additionally, our students have been invited to sing at the annual Walk with Christ Procession on the 22nd of November.

They will also be singing Christmas carols at OLSH Parish, which is a wonderful way to celebrate the birth of Christ.

A major focus across Sydney Catholic Schools is an initiative called MAGIS 2033. Magis refers to our ongoing mission and vision for Catholic Education. Our mission is to provide an education deeply anchored in faith, marked by educational excellence and accessible to all who seek it. We offer a Christ-centred vision focused on forming the whole person and fostering the pursuit of truth, beauty, and goodness.

The main focus areas are:

  • Integral Formation for Human Excellence: We are committed to an education that places the learning and development of the whole person at the centre, nurturing intellectual excellence, spiritual depth, moral character, physical health and wellbeing, and creativity, while fostering a deep sense of life’s meaning and purpose so that every learner may realise their full potential.
  • Schooling Excellence Accessible to All: We believe every family should have access to the highest quality Catholic education, where excellence and opportunity go hand in hand. Our ambition is to ensure every learner, regardless of circumstance, can experience a life-giving and transformative Catholic education and that every teacher is supported to focus on driving improvement in student outcomes.
  • Stewardship Excellence for Mission: As faithful stewards of the mission entrusted to us, we are committed to transparent and accountable governance, discerning leadership, and wise management of our time, resources and talents. Collectively, we will sustain and grow our schools as vibrant centres of evangelisation, learning and hope for generations to come.

This framework will remain a primary focus leading up to 2033, when the global Church celebrates a Jubilee Year marking 2,000 years since the Resurrection and Great Commission of Christ. The College will continually refer to MAGIS over the coming years as we work hard to educate the whole person.

Staffing Matters:

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Ms Natalia Hennessy on her appointment as our new Director of Learning and Innovation. Ms Hennessy, whom many of you know as our former English Coordinator, brings a wealth of classroom expertise and a deep understanding of the Brigidine community to the role. Parents and carers are encouraged to contact Ms Hennessy with any questions regarding student learning; she will be working closely with Ms Smith in the Teaching and Learning space.

As we move through Term 4, there will be many opportunities for learning, celebration and community engagement. I encourage every student to approach the remainder of the term with determination and optimism, making the most of every opportunity that lies ahead.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Brigidine College. I wish all members of our community a successful, productive, and enjoyable term.

School Fees 2027

Please note the correspondence from Hayley Wilding, Acting Head of Finance at Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS), regarding school fees:

“At Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS), we are committed to providing a high-quality and affordable Catholic education for every student. We appreciate the financial commitment involved in choosing a Catholic education for your children.

For 2027, school fees will consist of:

  • Tuition Fees: Supporting teacher salaries and the delivery of high-quality learning and student programs.
  • Building Levy: Contributing to the ongoing maintenance, renewal, and improvement of school facilities across SCS.
  • Resource Fee: Helping fund programs and initiatives that enrich the student experience, including music, sport and wellbeing programs.

The 2027 school fees are now available on the Brigidine College website under School Fees.

While some fee increases are necessary to meet rising education costs and continue delivering excellent learning opportunities for students, every effort has been made to keep increases as modest as possible. The fee structure has been carefully considered to balance the needs of our school community with affordability for families.

We are committed to working in partnership with families, understand that individual circumstances can change, and thank you for your ongoing trust, partnership and support of our school community.”
