Wellbeing and Engagement

As we begin the 2026 school year, we’re excited to continue our focus on student wellbeing, engagement, and inclusion here at Carlton Gardens Primary School. Learning isn’t just about academics, we know our students thrive when they feel safe, supported, and connected.

This year, our whole-school approach continues to create environments and experiences that help all students flourish:

  • Wellbeing and Social-Emotional Learning: Through explicit teaching using resources from Respectful Relationships and Zones of Regulation, students develop skills in self-awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, and resilience.
  • Engagement in Learning: Classrooms are structured to spark curiosity, confidence, and persistence, making learning meaningful and accessible for every student.
  • Inclusion and Belonging: Every student has a voice and a place at CGPS. Learning experiences are designed to meet diverse needs, celebrate differences, and foster a sense of community.
  • Supportive Spaces: Students can access our new and improved Wellbeing Room for guidance, reflection, or a quiet moment when they need it. Our Breakfast Club provides a welcoming start to the day on Fridays for anyone who wants it.
  • School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support: Our school values of respect, resilience, inclusivity, and curiosity guide our interactions and help students make positive choices every day. Keep an eye out for those blue stamps on your child’s hand as they work toward a class reward for demonstrating our values!

This term, our Social and Emotional Learning focus is on building routines, connections, and emotional awareness through the Zones of Regulation. Across all year levels, students will practise noticing and naming their emotions, understanding that all feelings are valid, and exploring strategies to manage them. Activities like getting-to-know-you games, recognising emotional signals, and reflecting on triggers will help students become more curious about themselves and others. By linking these experiences to our school value of Curiosity, we encourage students to ask questions, share ideas, and remain open to new perspectives as they explore the Zones of Regulation, their feelings, relationships, and their new learning environments.

We encourage families to partner with us in supporting students’ social and emotional growth. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s wellbeing, please contact your homeroom teacher. For urgent matters, a member of our leadership team is always available to support you.
